Basilan State College (BaSC) formally received the newly completed Two-Storey Lumah Alumni on April 28, 2026, at the BaSC grounds, Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City, Basilan.

The facility is a project of the Provincial Government of Basilan, funded through the 20% Development Fund. It was officially turned over to the College as part of the Provincial Government’s continuing support for educational development, institutional facilities, and alumni engagement.

College President Dr. Haipa Abdurahim-Salain expressed the institution’s sincere gratitude to the Provincial Government of Basilan, the Office of the Provincial Engineer, and all offices involved in the completion of the project. She emphasized that the Lumah Alumni will serve as a meaningful space for connection, collaboration, and continuing engagement among BaSC graduates and the College.

Hon. Nasser A. Salain, President of the BaSC Alumni Association and Board Member of the 1st District of Basilan, joined the ceremony, together with Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Sheila U. Alonzo, officials and personnel of the Provincial Government, BaSC officials, faculty, staff, alumni, and student leaders.

The turnover of the Lumah Alumni marks another significant step in strengthening BaSC’s institutional support systems as it continues to serve its students, graduates, and stakeholders. Envisioned as a home for the College’s graduates, the facility will provide a venue for alumni engagement, mentoring, collaboration, and initiatives that connect past, present, and future members of the BaSC community. Its completion reflects the value of sustained partnership between public service and education in creating spaces that honor institutional history, strengthen community ties, and contribute to the continuing growth of students, graduates, and the wider Basilan community.

Basilan State College proudly joins the Region IX delegation in the 2026 National Culture and the Arts Festival (NCAF) in Iloilo City, a significant national gathering of State Universities and Colleges convened through the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC).

Hosted by West Visayas State University (WVSU), in close collaboration with the City Government of Iloilo and the State Universities and Colleges in Region VI, this year’s festival carries the theme, “𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙨𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙜: 𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙤𝙜 𝙨𝙖 𝘼𝙩𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙆𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖, 𝙠𝙖𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞,” highlighting the shared commitment of higher education institutions to the preservation, celebration, and promotion of the country’s cultural heritage and artistic traditions.

As part of the Region IX delegation, Basilan State College brings to the national stage the cultural pride, artistic discipline, and creative potential of Basilan and the entire Zamboanga Peninsula. Its participation reflects the College’s contribution to the region’s collective representation in a national platform that affirms the vital place of culture and the arts in higher education, civic formation, and nation-building.

In connection with the opening activities of the festival, College President Hja. Haipa Abdurahim-Salain, EdD, joined fellow SUC Presidents and Officers-in-Charge in the meeting with CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, held prior to the formal opening ceremonies. The College delegation likewise took part in the Grand Parade and Opening Program, together with delegations from across the country, in a shared celebration of heritage, creativity, and cultural solidarity.

The Basilan State College Board of Trustees (BaSC-BOT) convened for its First Quarter Regular Meeting on April 7, 2026, at the OCRPA Conference Room, 4th Floor, HEDC Building, C.P. Garcia Avenue, Quezon City, and via Zoom.

Presided over by CHED Commissioner and BaSC-BOT Chairperson Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, the meeting gathered the members of the Board to deliberate on matters concerning the academic and administrative affairs of the College, including key concerns related to governance, operations, and institutional development. It likewise underscored the Board’s continuing commitment to providing policy direction and strategic guidance in support of the College’s mandate and long-term goals.
