“This historic school building, constructed in the early built between 1907 and 1946 during the American colonial period (1898-1946), stands as a silent witness to the evolution of education in Barangay Matlang, Isabel, Leyte. Despite the passage of time and the harsh tests of nature—including multiple super typhoons like the devastating Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013—this structure remains firm. Renovations have been made, but its core materials and original framework have endured, a testament to the craftsmanship and purpose it was built for.

Once known as Brgy. Matlang High School, it laid the foundation for secondary education in the area. When Matlang National High School was later established in a larger site, this building transitioned to become part of Matlang Central School. It now continues to serve new generations, blending its historic past with its present role.

Old, yes—but still standing, still functional, and still full of stories.”
