Egg Coffee of Little Hanoi Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ (3/5)

During our third day in Saigon, HCM Vietnam, me, Renz, and my mom decided to finally satisfy our curiosity about Vietnamese Egg Coffee at Little Hanoi Cafe. At first, my mom was hesitant (egg in coffee? really?), but since we’re dreaming of reopening Koh-Fee ST, this trip also became part of our R&D journey.

Little Hanoi’s Egg Coffee had a very strong and bold coffee flavor. The whipped egg layer on top made it creamier and helped balance the bitterness of the coffee. What stood out to us was that it wasn’t sweet at all; which might be good for those who prefer less sugar. They also offer it hot or cold.

However, during our Saigon vacation, Renz and my mom enrolled in a Vietnamese coffee workshop and learned that traditional Egg Coffee is meant to be served hot. It is usually placed in a small cup sitting inside a bowl of hot water to maintain its temperature. There’s also a proper way to enjoy it:

1. Do not stir immediately. Appreciate the layers first; the thick, creamy egg foam on top and the strong coffee beneath.

2. Scoop a bit of the egg foam first to taste its texture and sweetness.

3. Slowly mix the foam with the coffee to blend the flavors.

4. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of creamy richness and bold coffee.

5. Keep it warm! Egg Coffee is best experienced hot, not cold.

Overall, we’d give Little Hanoi’s Egg Coffee 3 out of 5 stars. It was good, but not exceptional. Personally, I would still opt for the Egg Coffee version of Trung Nguyên Legend Cafe, which had a more balanced and refined flavor for our taste.

Still, it was a memorable experience; and a meaningful one as part of our journey to hopefully bring Koh-Fee Street back to life. ☕
