𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 🌱🌍

The 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 joins the 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in the 5𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲-𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 held on March 29, 2026, at Sitio Bat-os, Barangay Tambaliza, Concepcion, Iloilo.

Bringing together volunteers, partners, and local residents, this mangrove planting was a powerful expression of solidarity and resilience. As we face growing environmental challenges, each mangrove planted serves as a collective step toward restoring our coastal ecosystems, strengthening natural defenses, and revitalizing marine life.

This initiative proves that community-driven action creates a lasting impact when we share a common purpose. It is a reminder that even simple efforts, when done in harmony, contribute to a more sustainable future.

May this activity serve as a testament of what we can achieve together because 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙬𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧; 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙬𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙬.

The 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗕𝗦𝗖𝗗) 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕, in collaboration with the 𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗧-𝗨 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗚𝗔𝗗) 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 successfully conducted the activity 𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗜𝗘-𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻: 𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 with the theme “𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗜𝗘 𝗽𝗮, 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗽𝗮𝗱: 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗜𝗘 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.” The seminar was held on 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 at the 𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗧 𝗨 𝗡-𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼-𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 as part of the celebration of National Women’s Month and in partial fulfillment of the course 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 under 𝗠𝘀. 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗗. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗼 and 𝗠𝘀. 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘆 𝗧. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁.

The seminar gathered first to third year BS Community Development students in a meaningful discussion about 𝙎𝙊𝙂𝙄𝙀𝙎𝘾; 𝙎𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙄𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙭 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨. The activity aimed to deepen students’ understanding of gender diversity while encouraging them to confront biases, challenge harmful stereotypes, and cultivate a culture of inclusivity and respect within the academic community and beyond.

Through the insightful discussion of our resource speaker, 𝗠𝘅. 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘅 𝗠. 𝗨𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗵𝗮𝘆, participants explored the lived experiences, realities, and challenges faced by individuals of diverse SOGIE in the Philippines. The seminar emphasized that the SOGIE Bill primarily seeks equity and protection from discrimination, ensuring that everyone, regardless of s*xual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or s*x characteristics, can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunities. Discussions covered the 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙊𝙂𝙄𝙀, 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙇𝙂𝘽𝙏 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, and identifying 𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙊𝙂𝙄𝙀 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮, knowledge and tools to foster respect and advocacy in their communities..

To make the seminar more engaging, an interactive game prepared by Mx. Gab, was conducted to introduce different countries and their approaches to gender equality and SOGIE-related policies. Through this activity, students compared global perspectives and reflected on how inclusivity, protection, and human rights are addressed in different nations. The discussion also created a safe and open space where participants shared insights, perspectives, and questions, enriching the conversation on gender diversity, social inclusion, and the importance of advocacy in building equitable communities.

More than an academic requirement, SOGIE-Lanon stands as a reminder that the pursuit of equality requires continuous awareness, empathy, and collective action. As future community development practitioners, students are called to become advocates who promote respect for diversity, challenge discrimination, and empower marginalized sectors within their communities.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the BSCD community to uphold the values of equity, inclusivity, and social justice. By fostering awareness and encouraging meaningful dialogue, the activity contributes to building a society where diversity is embraced and where every individual is valued and respected.

Let us continue to learn, advocate, and stand in solidarity, because achieving equality begins with awareness and grows through collective action.

In a powerful convergence of history, culture, and community spirit, the 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 of 𝐈𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 gathered last𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, for a deeply movie screening of the legendary film, 𝐃𝐞𝐤𝐚𝐝𝐚 ’𝟕𝟎.

This event—appropriately titled "BALIKTANAW"—served as our collective commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution. In the quiet hall, as we watched the Bartolome family navigate the turbulence of the 1970s, 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞; 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲.

As BS Community Development students, this screening was an essential immersion into the "Anatomy of Resistance." 𝐈𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐰, 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. We saw how the sanctuary of a home is never truly separate from the state of the nation. We recognized the early seeds of community organizing—the secret meetings, the pamphlets, and the collective courage that eventually blossomed into the miracle at EDSA.

Watching this film just one day before the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA Revolution gave the experience an even deeper weight. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲. "𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓" 𝒊𝒔𝒏'𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒏 𝒂 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓; 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔, 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆. This cinematic journey perfectly embodies our theme, "𝐑𝐡𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬: 𝐀𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰," as the stories of the 1970s serve as the persistent "echoes" that pulse through our current advocacy. As future community developers, we understand that by amplifying these lessons, we are the ones who will ultimately define the narrative of tomorrow. Through the lens of this film, we bridge the gap between memory and movement, proving that our impact today is the resonance of a long-standing fight for freedom.

As we conclude our festivities and move back into our academics, we carry the fire of the 70s and the hope of EDSA in our hearts. We remember so that we may never repeat the mistakes of the past, and we learn so that we may build a future worthy of those who fought for our freedom.

Last February 23-24, 2026 we celebrate our 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲, the Day 1, afternoon session opened a meaningful space for dialogue, reflection, and deeper understanding through our seminar on 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: 𝐒𝐞𝐱, 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.

We were honored to welcome 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐌. 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 from the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧, who shared his expertise in unpacking essential concepts of s*x, gender, and s*xuality. His discussion challenged us to confront long-held assumptions, question social norms we often take for granted, and recognize the diversity and complexity of lived experiences. Through open conversations and shared insights, we engaged in critical reflection, examining how perspectives are formed, how biases are sustained, and how awareness can shape more thoughtful and informed communities.

There was a time when hope filled the streets of EDSA. 🇵🇭

Today, we remember the EDSA People Power Revolution, a defining moment in Philippine history when millions of Filipinos gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue to reclaim democracy. For four historic days, from February 22 to 25, 1986, courage replaced fear, and unity became our nation’s greatest weapon.

It was not violence that changed the course of history, but collective conviction. Students, workers, families, religious leaders, and soldiers stood side by side, proving that the true power of a nation lies in its people.

As we commemorate this anniversary, may we continue to protect the freedoms fought for during those four days. The spirit of EDSA lives on in every Filipino who chooses truth, justice, and active citizenship.
