๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ | Highlights of the sediment and plankton sampling at Uacon Lake, Brgy. Uacon, Candelaria, Zambales this March 31, 2026.
Itโs a wrap! The BSES 2 students have officially concluded their intensive three-day field activity for Aquatic Ecology (ENVSC 2) at Uacon Lake, Candelaria, Zambales.
Supervised by BSES Program Chair, Dr. Rowena R. Sazon, the final day focused on deep-water sampling and lake characterization. Students utilized a Van Veen Grab for sediment and benthos collection and deployed 20 and 60-micron plankton nets to study the lake's microscopic life. The students also conducted precise measurements of abiotic parameters, including water depth, temperature, and transparency.
This activity marks the successful end of a field series that also brought the class to Soulโs Nature Park and Dapya River, providing a comprehensive view of the region's diverse lotic and lentic environments.
The three-day field series is a testament to the BSES programโs commitment to providing experiential learning that fosters the skills necessary to understand and protect our environment. By giving students a platform to operate specialized equipment and conduct advanced ecological assessments, the program ensures that every BSES student is prepared to lead in the field of environmental conservation and resource management.

๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ | Highlights of the ecological field investigation and macroinvertebrate monitoring at Dapya River, Brgy. New San Juan, Cabangan, Zambales this March 25, 2026.
In line with the course Aquatic Ecology (ENVSC 2), the BSES 2 students successfully conducted a comprehensive ecological field investigation at Dapya River, Brgy. New San Juan, Cabangan, Zambales.
Under the expert guidance of BSES Program Chair, Dr. Rowena R. Sazon, the students assessed both the biotic and abiotic components of the river ecosystem. The investigation included precise measurements of stream velocity, width, and depth, alongside water quality testing using pH strips and hardness kits. A key highlight of the activity is the macroinvertebrate monitoring, where the students employed the kick sampling method to collect bioindicators, gaining a deeper understanding of the river's biological health.
This activity reflects the BSES program's unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence through actual field application. By immersing students in real-world ecological assessments, we nurture future environmental professionals who are ready to protect and manage our vital water resources.
