Qurbani (Udhiyyah) in the Quran is a symbolic act of devotion and piety, not just a ritual slaughter, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son. It symbolizes obedience to Allah, drawing closer to Him, and sharing with those in need, with the ultimate sacrifice being one's internal submission rather than just meat or blood. [1, 2, 3]

Key Aspects of Qurbani in the Quran & Sunnah:

Significance & Purpose: Qurbani, derived from "Qurb" (nearness), is meant to bring believers closer to Allah. The Quran explicitly states: "It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is your piety that reaches Him" [Surah Al-Hajj 22:37].

Origin - Story of Ibrahim (AS): It commemorates Ibrahim’s (AS) trial, where Allah replaced his son with a great sacrifice after he showed complete submission, as told in Surah As-Saffat.

Rules & Timing: It takes place during Eid al-Adha (10th to 13th Dhu al-Hijjah) following Hajj, as mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:196) and Surah Al-Kautsar (108:2), which instructs, "So pray to your Lord and sacrifice".

Permissible Animals: The Quran permits sacrificing livestock animals ("Bahiimatul An’aam"), which include sheep, goats, cows, and camels.

Sharing and Charity: Qurbani emphasizes community welfare by distributing meat to the poor, family, and friends, reinforcing generosity.

Obligation: While the Quran advises it as a virtuous act, in the Hanafi madhab it is compulsory (fardh) for those with wealth above their needs, whereas others consider it highly recommended (sunnah).
