Defend Press Freedom!
August 30th will see us mark National Day in Honor of Press Freedom. It is one day out of the year set aside to pay homage to courageous and committed journalists of the nation.
A press that is free and responsible takes the issues of journalists beyond protecting their rights; rather, it goes to guarding the rights of the people to know. Society without the freedom of the press is almost synonymous with a wilfully blind, silenced, and unjust society. We can therefore dedicate this day to renewing our commitment to the struggle for transparency, accountability, and the total pursuit of truth.
In the name of free and responsible journalism, may we continue to uphold principles, stand firm in our convictions, and remain steadfast on the side of truth.
