In 1975, the science of toxicology was introduced in the country with the establishment of a poison control center at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). This was in response to the increasing incidence of poisoning brought about by indiscriminate use of pesticides. Activities of the Center focused on the management of acute poisoning cases and research. Expanding outreach, upgrading services

🧪⚕️ Not every medical specialty follows a script. In Toxicology, every patient brings a new challenge, every exposure tells a different story, and every decision can change an outcome.

At the UP-PGH NPMCC Clinical Toxicology Fellowship, training goes beyond managing poisonings. Fellows learn to navigate complex emergencies, investigate environmental and occupational exposures, collaborate across disciplines, and provide expert care when answers are not always obvious.

The journey is demanding, but no one walks it alone. Guided by experienced mentors and supported by a dedicated team, fellows develop the knowledge, confidence, and judgment needed to lead in the field of toxicology.

If you're looking for a specialty that combines critical care, detective work, public health, and lifelong learning, your next chapter may begin here.

✨ Learn. Lead. Serve. Make a difference when it matters most.

Toxicology is no longer just about identifying poisons — it is about generating reliable answers when patient care, public health, and safety decisions depend on laboratory evidence.**

The National Poison Management and Control Center invites medical technologists, chemists, laboratory professionals, and other allied health practitioners to join the 16th Postgraduate Course in Analytical Toxicology: Module 01 – Fundamentals in Analytical Toxicology, happening from August 03 to September 04, 2026.

This foundational course is designed to strengthen essential knowledge and practical skills in analytical toxicology, including methodologies, laboratory procedures, clinical applications, and common causes of poisoning.

In today’s setting of emerging toxic exposures, environmental hazards, chemical incidents, substance misuse, and increasing demand for accurate laboratory-based diagnosis, analytical toxicology remains a relevant, timely, and highly needed field in healthcare and public health.

Module 01 also serves as the pre-requisite for next year’s advanced program: Module 02 – Applied Analytical Toxicology, focusing on methods development, validation, and quality assurance for clinical and forensic toxicology applications.
