…after the scanner decided to eat one of the ship’s most important certificates.

You might already hear this in your head
"Third, you can pack your bags now"

Lesson:
When scanning important ship & crew documents, avoid using the Automatic Document Feeder(ADF).

Always use the flatbed/manual scanner. It’s slower, but safer.

(List in the comments section)

Dun mo marerealizie na sana may spare items or spare parts kang naka ready.

This list is for reference only and not exhaustive.

Pero kahit papaano, makakatulong itong maging starting point para mas madali mong ma-plan requisitions mo bilang 3rd Officer.

Terrible habit, sometimes....

I often receive requests from followers asking for step-by-step tutorials on how to operate various pieces of bridge equipment.

I truly appreciate the interest, but I’d like to explain why I’ve mostly chosen not to go down this route.

The main reason is this:

Bridge equipment varies significantly across different vessels and manufacturers.

Core functions are consistent, but the exact steps to perform these tasks vary widely depending on the make, model, and software version of the equipment being used.

For example, setting a safety contour on one brand of ECDIS might involve a completely different interface and terminology than on another.

The sequence of operations is not standardized, and providing a step-by-step tutorial for one system can easily lead to confusion or even mistakes when someone tries to apply it on a different setup.

If I were to publish a universal step-by-step guide, there’s a high risk that:

Users might blindly follow a process that doesn't apply to their ship's equipment, which could lead to operational errors.

Instead, my goal is to straightforwardly teach you the essential functions that every Third Officer must understand, regardless of the equipment brand.

The exact steps can always be checked in the equipment manual available on the bridge, or you can simply ask a senior officer for guidance.
