Explored a little bit yesterday around Metro Manila. Found a cool little spot looking towards Laguna de Bay. Really missed exploring and going somewhere without any plans.

Got my Philippines driver’s license! The proper and legal way. Just a few thoughts about driver’s in the Philippines.

Here in the Philippines you’ll see a lot of road accident and people driving without a license videos. Because of lack of training a big percentage of people on the road don’t know proper safety procedures during everyday common driving scenarios. As a result you’ll see a lot of drivers getting into wrecks for crossing over to the opposite lane on a blind curve— it’s basic safety knowledge to not overtake if you can’t see the road ahead.

Another frequent hazard I see a lot of people do here is that many do not look left and right when turning or crossing an intersection, this goes with drivers and pedestrians. A lot of dash cam footage you’ll also see are drivers going into an intersection and get crushed by another vehicle, sometimes completely destroyed by a huge semi-trailer truck.

Road accidents happen so frequently Filipinos have a word for it—“kamote” (sweet potato). Similar to how Americans use “Darwin award” for grossly incompetent people.

My last example, since I drive a scooter, is you’ll see videos of many 2-wheeled motorists showing off their banking skills on a curve, or lack thereof, just to prove in the end their body is just as soft as a boiled “kamote” when they crash and hit the pavement or end up in a canal.

“Fixers” facilitate this problem by foregoing the entire process of obtaining a license, consequently skipping basic safety training. I’ve driven over 400,000 km since I was 15 years old driving in the Philippines & in America—Never been in a single accident.

I recommend watching “Gabriel Go” videos on facebook if you like seeing road justice lawfully and properly enforced in the Philippines.
