UMDC Shares Christmas Joy with Digos Communities Through Paskuhan sa Barangay
True to its commitment to community service, the University of Mindanao Digos College (UMDC) community brought the spirit of Christmas closer to home through UMDC Paskuhan sa Barangay: Gift-Giving and Medical Mission on December 17, 2025, in Barangay Ruparan, Barangay Dawis, and Barangay San Miguel, Digos City.
The outreach activity reached senior citizens and daycare pupils, bringing smiles, essential services, and holiday cheer to families in the participating barangays. UMDC employees, students, alumni, and partner agencies worked hand in hand in a true bayanihan spirit, sharing time, care, and compassion with the elderly and children of Digos.
Free medical services were made possible through the support of the City Health Office (CHO) and the City Special Programs and Management Office (CSPMO) under the leadership of Mayor Josef Cagas, with additional assistance from the UMDC Center for Health Services. Children also received 150 school bags and school supplies, generously donated by Invertaire Aircondition Company, owned by Engr. Nhel Quiros, helping prepare them for their school needs.
Transportation and logistical support were provided by the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur, under Governor Yvonne Cagas, and the UMDC PPMSG, headed by Mr. Russell Tampus, whose team ensured the smooth coordination, mobilization, and delivery of services throughout the activity. The success of the outreach was further strengthened by the participation of the Local Government Regional Resource Center, led by Dr. Giovanni Kish Basilgo, and the Digos City Library, headed by Ms. Esther Tabanao.
Feeding activities were shared with beneficiaries through the support of the Office of Hon. Liza Cagas and the Office of Hon. Jan Jan Egos, while Digos Snacks and Scents by Indzae Gracia, owned by Ms. Merafel Grace Abule, added excitement to the celebration through the donation of 150 loot bags filled with treats for children.
Food assistance was also extended through donations of sacks of rice from the UMDC Alumni Association, led by Dr. Delia Ayano, the UMDC Faculty Club under Mr. Jess Anthony Casagan, and students from UMDC NSTP, ROTC, CDSG, CSO, and the Senior High School Department, who also contributed assorted groceries and school supplies.
Guided by the leadership of UMDC Director Dr. Tessie G. Miralles and supported by the University of Mindanao Administration in general, the activity was successfully carried out as part of UMDC’s continuing mission to serve the people of Digos City.
Through UMDC Paskuhan sa Barangay, the UMDC community once again demonstrated that education goes beyond the classroom—reaching communities, strengthening partnerships, and sharing hope, especially during the Christmas season.
Thank you very much everyone! Kudos!
