Davao de Oro State College and Alinea Philippines Inc. officially strengthened their commitment to climate and disaster resilience through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Governance for Climate and Disaster Resilience (Gov-CDR) Project on October 2, 2026, at the DdOSC Presidentโs Conference Room, bringing together Gov-CDR project proponents, DdOSC personnel, and personnel from the Provincial Local Government Unit of Davao de Oro.
The partnership was formalized through the signing of the MOU by DdOSC SUC President I Dr. Lilybeth M. Matunhay and Alinea Country Project Manager Mr. Edgardo B. Catalan, with Dr. Jeson N. Geroche, Director of the Extension Services Division and the DdOSC focal person for the partnership, and Mr. Froilan A. Morales, Provincial Project Coordinator of Gov-CDR, serving as witnesses.
The Gov-CDR Project, funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Alinea Philippines Inc. in collaboration with its Canadian affiliate, seeks to strengthen resilience to natural and climate-induced hazards in six highly vulnerable provinces, including Davao de Oro.
During the program, Morales presented an overview of the Gov-CDR Project, discussing its current status, plans, and direction, providing a clearer picture of the projectโs priorities that will guide its succeeding activities.
Dr. Ronald Sibayan, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Agriculturist Office, also shared inputs during the discussion and recognized that the project requires different agencies to work together and contribute their respective expertise, and resources toward achieving its goals.
Catalan, meanwhile, emphasized important considerations that stakeholders should not overlook as the partnership moves forward.
A significant point raised during the gathering was the wealth of research generated by DdOSC, which can serve as an important source of evidence and knowledge in informing the Gov-CDR Project. The MOU itself recognizes DdOSCโs research and extension mandate and its capacity to provide access to information in support of the project's activities.
The partnership further presents opportunities for DdOSC faculty and students to contribute to through volunteer engagement and field activities. The Gov-CDR presentation highlighted three key areas of collaboration: capacity development of DdOSC faculty, a volunteer program involving faculty and students, and project implementation support, including climate-resilient agriculture, watershed protection, gender and development, and community-based climate and disaster resilience initiatives.
For DdOSC, the signing marks a significant milestone in expanding its international partnerships.
