PARQUE VIRGINIA RESIDENCES: Houses Between Lights To build a building between its long façade in the direction of the depth of the plot, forces to squint into the street and facing the neighbor; to overcome these drawbacks of perception the following tactics have been implemented:- The perimeter wall of each house is treated as a thickness of light, and thus to live in light and not between meridian walls, thicknesses which, in turn, sift the perception of them.

Sedona Fire Station 6 Sedona Fire District Station 6 - Winner of the AZ Forward Governor's Award for Energy & Innovation and several other Design Awards. LEA Architects worked closely with the Sedona Fire District in designing Sedona Fire Station No. 6 for over 8 years to arrive at this very functional and award winning beautiful sustainable building. The project is located off of the State Route 179 and is sited between the Christ Lutheran Church of Sedona and the Jewish Synagogue. The two religious entities are interconnected with a friendship trail that passes in front of the entry sequence to the fire station. The design of the project draws inspiration in form, materials, and texture from the beauty of the surrounding rock formations as well as the significant modern architecture of the nearby Chapel of the Holy Cross. The building program includes 2 apparatus bays, a training/community room for public use. Living quarters include kitchen and dining, a dayroom, and dormitories. These spaces were meticulously designed to take advantage of the of the majestic views inherent to the area. The Project was dedicated in May of 2014 with over 300 people attending the special ceremony and memorial service to a fallen DPS officer. Sedona 6 received the Coconino County Sustainable Building Program (CCSBP) Advanced Level Plus Design Excellence Award 2014.

Forest Quintet The five star Quintet is located in the mountain area in Yanggu, an hour driving from Seoul. The five families who own these five houses are either relatives or friends. Design concept of this project is to achieve the interaction between human and nature through the approach of architecture. Both the architect and owners gave their call to the idea of “less is more” and willing to leave the “busy life” behind in the city. Rooms are just enough for living. Neither too big nor vacant. The real “big space” is the nature outside. The architectural appearance and materials used of each house are similar, however, while taking the site conditions and living style of each household into account, each house is a unique and special unit. Each house is a mediation between opposite and conflicting elements: man and nature, interior and view, sunlight and shade, and ultimately, the will to be free and the need to be sheltered.

Roof House Roof House is a project that completely transforms an existing villa beautifully situated on a large site filled with trees in Fredensborg, Denmark. The existing house is occupied by a family with three children and the specific needs of the family formed the basis of the project. Planning restrictions on the site called for a careful and minimal approach and this lead to the idea of extending the house by upwards by adding a series of roof buildings.

The Stack The Stack is a pilot project for developing a quality and economically viable housing solution to strategically rebuilding and filling gaps in outmoded housing infrastructure in the city. It finds opportunity on a small, difficult urban site by taking advantage of offsite construction methods. Offsite construction offers an accelerated schedule and shorter financing period, turning sites that might otherwise be considered risky and turning them into opportunities. Although not necessary to this construction methodology, the design of this 7-story residential building expresses its modular construction. Each individual modular unit is legible but also reads as part of a knit-together whole.

SoundCloud Headquarters The new headquarters of internationally renowned online platform SoundCloud cover three levels and approx. 4,000 square meters of an old brewery building close to the former Berlin Wall. The complex, designed to serve as a future incubator for up-and-coming start-ups, will become the one-stop office for all 180 Berlin employees of the foremost hub for musical exchange on the net. Anticipating future expansion of the rapidly growing SoundCloud platform, the spacious offices could potentially accommodate up to 350 desks. To provide the company and its new HQ with a matching spatial identity and the right architectural framework for the platform’s novel business and working structures, SoundCloud asked KINZO to turn its new hub into a space that exudes and encourages innovation and creativity. The platform envisaged a welcome beacon in Berlin’s office landscape that both shapes the company and evolves with SoundCloud over the years. Against this background, KINZO’s conversion redefines the rules of office design with its tangible reflection of a virtual community. While KINZO’s design interventions retain the former factory’s industrial charm, they also emphasise the location’s characteristics to create just the right space for such a young and expanding business. In order to preserve the location’s factory feel, KINZO decided to retain the brewery’s raw appeal, leaving the building’s original brickwork and ceiling details exposed. Underscoring this aesthetic, all technical installations are clearly on display, snaking across the naked surfaces in an ornamental meets functional pattern that juxtaposes old and new.The only substantial alteration to the structure’s original architecture can be found between the two lower-most levels: Here, a two-storey atrium and staircase now serves as the main hub of communication for the new SoundCloud universe. Versatile to the core, both space and fittings can adapt according to requirement – thanks to the flexible architecture, potential uses range from reception and bar to cinema, panel discussion and beyond. At the same time – and in line with the platform’s ultimate aim – sound (or acoustics) remain the red thread of KINZO’s overall design concept. From open work spaces and café-meets-reception area to various themed rooms – each space at the new SoundCloud HQ promotes flexible use scenarios and the platform’s ingrained culture of constant creative exchange. Thanks to subtle accents and interventions, introduced …
