The Ghostborns

When the Wolverines were annihilated—or so the Clans believed—one splinter cell escaped farther than anyone imagined. Fleeing beyond the Periphery, they abandoned the name “Wolverine” but not the fire that forged it. Over generations, they rebuilt in isolation, preserving the last surviving Royal SLDF BattleMechs and the tactical doctrines of the Star League Defense Force. Their engineers maintained the machines with almost religious devotion, cannibalizing derelicts and reverse‑engineering lost technologies the Inner Sphere had long forgotten.

They called themselves the Ghostborn—a people without a star, without a Clan, but not without purpose.

For centuries they watched the Inner Sphere from afar, waiting. When Clan Wolf conquered Terra, the Ghostborn saw their ancient enemy rise again under SLDF banners. That was the moment they returned.

They did not arrive as conquerors. They arrived as mercenaries.

Operating from a mobile flotilla of refurbished SLDF WarShips, the Ghostborn Legion began taking contracts from Great Houses desperate for any edge against the Clans. Their sudden appearance shocked intelligence agencies across the Inner Sphere:

• Royal‑grade Highlanders, Black Knights, and Wolverine II’s marching in pristine formation
• SLDF‑era combined‑arms tactics executed with surgical precision
• MechWarriors trained in Wolverine‑style aggression, tempered by centuries of exile

To the Clans, they were an impossibility—an echo of a dead enemy wielding weapons that should not exist. To the Inner Sphere, they were a mystery wrapped in Star League steel.

The Ghostborn never reveal their origins. They never remove their helmets in public. They never speak of their past.

But every time they face a Clan unit in battle, their fury is unmistakable.

Some say they fight for justice.
Others say they fight for revenge.
The truth is simpler.

They fight to finish what the Wolverines began.
