SAD TRUTH & HARSH REALITY | AGRI PH

The perspective that the Philippine government is not genuinely inclined to help local farmers is a widely held and deeply felt sentiment among agricultural workers.

While government agencies regularly announce billion-peso budgets, specialized loan allocations, and repopulation programs (kickback), small-scale crop, cattle, and goat raisers consistently feel abandoned.

"Walay tinuod na supporta. May ras intro, dili ka human sa kanta."

This disconnect between government promises and the harsh reality on the ground stems from systemic flaws, historical policies, and institutional roadblocks.

Preference for Cheap Importation Over Local Production is when local meat or crop supplies dip, or when prices spike, the government’s immediate strategy is often to lower tariffs and increase the Minimum Access Volume (MAV) to import products.

The Impact: Massive volumes of imported pork, beef, and vegetables flood the local market. Unya ang mga nananom gyud didtos bukid, bagsak presyo, gamay ginansya di ka bawe sa medicina or fertilizer. Mga lata nalang kasagaran ang harvest tawn kay ang presyo halos pangayuon nalang.

The Consequence: This suppresses the market for local livestock and crop raisers. Farmers cannot compete with cheap, subsidized foreign imports, causing them to incur heavy losses. Pero ang reality, walay ubos na presyo ron sa local market, iyaha patas-anay presyo mga sellers, mapa utanon man or karne.

CATTLE FARMING INDUSTRY NOTE:

This widening imbalance between demand & supply is why cattle fattening has become such an important strategy.

Every kilo of live weight produced locally or in your backyard reduces the country's dependence on imports and gives Filipino farmers a stronger foothold in an industry that is both necessary and full of promise.

Today, the demand for beef is outpacing supply, and that’s the truth.

Salute to cattle farmers who breed to feed.

WHERE'S THE RECEIPT?

Real Talk: You Can’t Fool a Goat Raiser with Slaughter-Ready Prices

For several days, a goat dispersal program from a local province has been making the rounds on our feeds, especially across different 'AGRI' pages.

Why Livestock Dispersal Programs in the Philippines Keep Failing?

Let’s be real—it’s not always a scam, but it’s also not working the way it should.

The idea is simple: give animals to farmers, let them reproduce, and pass the benefits forward. On paper, it sounds like a sustainable way to fight poverty.

But in reality?
• Animals are given without proper support (feeds, vet care, housing)

• Wrong beneficiaries are selected (sometimes due to politics)

• Monitoring is weak—no real accountability

• Farmers sell or lose the animals before they reproduce, with personal consumption acting as a last resort during times of hunger

• Livestock takes time, and disease can wipe everything out

So the system breaks.
This isn’t just corruption—it’s a flawed model at scale.

You can’t solve a complex livestock business with a simple “giveaway” approach.

Until there’s full support, accountability, and the right people handling the animals… failure will keep repeating.

We’ve seen it before, heard about it, or are familiar with it—and some have even experienced actual dispersal programs in other provinces. For example, the capital is ₱2,250,000 for 150 heads (15k each), if my math is correct. The budget for this is just one example of where our taxes go.

If you know, you know. Looking at the breeds, some are the lowest-tier crosses, or worse, just native breeds. Overall, these are livestock ready for slaughter in the eyes of many breeders and even simple backyard farmers. In a 'mata-mata' (visual) trade, these goats would only cost between ₱2,500 and ₱5,000 for the larger ones. You can’t fool a breeder; you can’t fool a true goat raiser. What a massive kickback!

Low quality and not breeding material. Period.

SU-IK ang 1M kapin oi pero naay programa na pakita sa publiko, haha.

GREED brings out the worst in people.

my 2 cents ~
