Exactly on this day a year ago, I photographed and created a post for Merielle's page! I couldn't believe it. 😅

Before, I thought it was just a pastime for me. A hobby till I got another job. But I didn't know it was preparation for what was going to happen now. 🙏✨

Merielle's is my aunt's business. And let me tell you a secret 🤫! Aside from Merielle's Lemonada, they got the BEST empanada in town. 👋

Believe me! I get to eat it whenever I take photos of these babies. With its flaky pastry-like dough and savory fillings, eating it once is not enough to satisfy your cravings.

I mean it, it's the BEST! 🎉🎉🎉

Here are more tips to improve your skill in food photography. 👇

📷 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞. A negative space is an area or surrounding left unoccupied around your subject. Sometimes too much clutter can be distracting. Use negative space if you want to highlight your photo's subject.

📷 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬. It's a type of composition where the image is divided into thirds equally. You may turn on your gridlines in your camera settings to do this. Then you place your subject at the intersection of the gridlines.

📷 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭. The focal point is the area of your image that you want your viewers to notice the most. Without a focal point, a photo may feel aimless.

📷 𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. Who doesn't want a story? You may add a bitten cupcake or a hand dipping French fries on ketchup. A human touch in food photography adds a personal touch to it.

🎉 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬. It adds a personal touch to your content. It also shows you care for your team.

🍨 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐞. Your customers may look forward to something new. You can do this by making a special edition menu each month.

When was the last time you went out to eat with friends and family? Or do you prefer to eat home cooked meals at home? 😊

I grew up in a Filipino household, and we immediately ate once food was cook. And they always say food is best serve when hot. 🍚

Now that I'm a grown-up, I'm sure that hot food warms the soul. It brings comfort knowing we can come home to fill our stomachs with home cooked meals.

Are you a food business owner D.I.Ying your photos?

Putting a lot of effort into it but your photos didn't turn out well?

I understand your struggles, I've been there. I also didn't know anything about taking good quality photos until I started taking photos for my aunt's business.

Presentation and making food palatable on mobile phones are quite important. Otherwise, how can we convince our customers that our food is delicious?

So here are some tips I could share with you. 👇

📷 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞. If you're doing your photoshoot observe where your light source is. It's also not recommended to take photos during high noon. The light's too harsh and bright.

📷 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬. Yes, even food has flattering angles. Some are best shot with top angles (ex. pizza). Some are best shot with side angles (ex. burger). And some are the best shot with a 45-degree angle (ex. drinks)

📷 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬. A loitering spoon or table napkin ruins can ruin the photo. Focus on the food but don't zoom too much to the point the food was unrecognizable.

And lastly, practice! Only with practice, we can gain new experiences. 😊

🌈 𝑯𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒚. Can't eat without your tongue burning and eyes watering? You must be a spicy lover like I am! Research says people who love spicy foods crave adrenaline rush and intense stimulation.

🌈 𝑺𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒓. People who constantly combine these two flavors tend to get overwhelmed easily, BUT you are also good at bringing the balance again.

🌈 𝑹𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒎. Do you seek out almost every new food you could try on? You might be a risk-taker.

🌈 𝑺𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕. Are you a sweet tooth? Then you might be an agreeable, friendly, and outgoing person.

🌈 𝑷𝒊𝒛𝒛𝒂. The combination of fats and carbs makes your brain lit like a Christmas light. Plus, it is go-to party food. So, if you like pizza, you tend to be an extrovert.

🌈 𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅. You place high importance on traditions. Being a traditionalist doesn't mean you're boring; you only want to feel connected with your loved ones.

🌈 𝙋𝙪𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜. If you hate the texture of pudding, that's fine. It may only mean you're observant. You tend to be sensitive with details.
