Today we commemorate the declaration of Philippine independence from the 333 years of Spanish Colonial rule. Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, who later became the first president of the nation, proclaimed the Philippinesโ€™ independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite, as the flag was unfurled and the โ€œMarcha Nacional Filipinaโ€, an instrumental march of the Lupang Hinirang that we know today, was played for the first time on June 12, 1898.

However, by the amount of injustices and corruption our nation are currently facing, we cannot truly be sovereign when its people are bound by systemic greed and inequality. Today, letโ€™s remember that the power to reshape our society has always belonged to the hands that built it.

The 9th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Research (ICMR) was conducted at La Consolacion College-Bacolod on June 10, 2026, featuring both face-to-face and online setups. The conference was held across four venues: the Barcelona Center for Advanced Studies, College Building Room 213 and Room 214, and the Auditorium. The event highlighted a wide array of studies covering business management, human resources, physical education, health sciences, psychology, education innovation, architecture, urban planning, and corporate governance.

The afternoon parallel sessions spotlighted the graduate school students and faculty of LCC-Bacolod. A total of 28 participants presented their research across various fields, including hospitality and tourism, health and wellness, and engineering. Research studies included Ronel Banolaโ€™s Study on Supplier Relationship Management and Risk Management, Marvin Talaveraโ€™s study on Employee Loyalty in the Furniture Retail Sector, and Pia Lara Lizadesโ€™ exploration of Emotional Labor and Productivity in Quick Service Restaurants, among many others.

As research continues to serve as the foundation for new innovations, the ICMR researchers, educators, and professionals presented these studies for the greater good. The presentations illustrated how multidisciplinary approaches can help create strengthened organizations, innovative interventions, and sustainable, human-centered progress. The ICMR impacts students and faculty to continue providing a platform where future researchers can share their studies and be knowledgeable on how research can be applied in real-life contexts.

The event concluded with a keynote address by Mr. Filippo Martin on "Mapping the European Negotiation Landscape: Insights from the European Negotiation Conference 2025," which addressed the rise of transactional styles and increasing political polarization. The program officially ended with the awarding of the best research papers and closing remarks from Dr. Rodjhun B. Navarro, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Linkages.

On June 6, 2026, the Official Student Publication of La Consolacion College - Bacolod, The Ripples and the Literary Folio: K.K Trip Student Contributors convened at the Luisa Medel Little Theater for the Year-End Assembly along with the Gawad Alon Awards 2026. With the theme, "The Trail of Waves We Made", the Ripples celebrated the lasting impacts they left throughout the year.

The event began with a prayer, followed by the Philippine National Anthem. School President Sr. Flolyn Catungal, OSA, delivered the opening remarks thereafter. She congratulated the Ripples for their hard work and dedication as they balance being students alongside their role as campus journalists, "In every event, we see youโ€”I saw youโ€”doing your thing...You do not only inform, but you serve the school and your fellow students". She also added in her speech that the meeting with the editorial board last May 8, 2026, was acknowledged and kept in mind, "You just expressโ€”I want our students to express their voice. So thank you for coming to me. You also do not empower yourselves, but you also empower your fellow students [to speak for their rights]".

Sr. Flolyn also challenged the Ripples, affirming their role as Augustinians, to always write the truth, write with integrity, and express with charity. She added that with the rise of AI, only humans have the heart to write the truth. Ending her speech, she thanked the Ripples for their contribution and wished them continued success in shedding light on the people and the school community.

Following the opening remarks, Associate Professor Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, LPT, DPA, took the stage as the guest speaker to discuss campus journalism in the digital age, highlighting press rights, responsibilities, and media laws. She emphasized the critical role of journalists when it comes to questioning the government, addressing social issues, and keeping the public informed. However, she reminded that these come with boundaries, stressing the need to remain fair, ethical, and accurate. Lastly, she underscored that being a journalist carries responsibility, requiring accountability to the truth and to the public they serve.

The Gawad Alon Awards then commenced. This is established as an annual award-giving body that honors the outstanding student journalists and literary artists of La Consolacion College-Bacolod. The first part of the awarding is dedicated to the student contributors who poured their creativity, imagination, and passion into this year's The Ripples Literary Folio: K.K Trip through poetry, prose, and visual arts that gave life to the stories of the school community.

Shortly after the first set of awards, lunch was served, allowing everyone to bond and enjoy over a shared meal.

The second part of the Gawad Alon Awards recognized the outstanding student journalists of The Ripples. This includes the writers, editors, photojournalists, and artists who dedicated their efforts to uphold campus press freedom, ethical reporting, and journalistic integrity throughout the year.

Pauline Rose Jallorina, Editor-in-Chief of The Ripples, delivered the closing remarks, sharing her personal journey on becoming the Editor-in-Chief and expressing her immense pride in the publication's growth. She was grateful for the trust given to her and thanked the team for their resilience through endless editing and deadlines.

"The Trail of Waves We Made won't just wash out as this event closes. Rather, these will be the Ebb & Tide that will continue to flow and make new ripples of possibilities, change, and progress," she highlighted.

After a brief photo opportunity and a closing prayer, the afternoon celebration transitioned from the formal ceremonies into a series of fun games with unusual and comical prizes to win. These aimed to strengthen the camaraderie among the staff.

The year-end assembly of The Ripples concluded in a spirit of shared pride, happiness, and profound gratitude. Ultimately, the event was a reminder that the waves made today leave an impact that will last eternally.

The La Consolacion College Bacolod (LCCB) National Service Training Program (NSTP) conducted a completion ceremony for the Nation Builders of Batch 2025-2026 with the theme, โ€œPagsibol: Formed in Faith, Guided by Values, and Engaged in Service", on June 5, 2026, at the LCCB Centennial Quadrangle. The event was attended by 450 NSTP students, their respective section advisers, the NSTP Coordinator, Ms. Bernadette T. Tupas, MBA, LPT, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Ms. Penny V. Sanchez, LPT, PhD, and the guest speaker, CDR. Aritzell M. Anacan, PCG, the Acting Station Commander of Coast Guard Northern Negros Occidental.

The completion ceremony began with a processional march, followed by the opening prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by the NSTP Chorale. Ms. Bernadette T. Tupas, MBA, LPT, warmly welcomed the students and guests through her opening remarks. Meanwhile, Ms. Penny V. Sanchez, LPT, PhD, delivered a special message for the completers.

In his inspirational message, CDR. Anacan interpreted the theme "Pagsibol." He explained that just as a seed breaks through darkness in search of light, growth often begins quietly and painfully. He stated, โ€œYou are no longer just seeds hidden in the dark; you are breaking through, sprouting into the compassionate leaders and active nation builders our country desperately needs.โ€ His message empowered the graduates to serve their communities with humility, integrity, and purpose.

The NSTP completers' presentation for the School Year 2025โ€“2026 was led by Ms. Tupas, while Dr. Sanchez conducted the verification of completers. The event concluded with the awarding of Certificates of Completion to 11 NSTP sections.

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the Loyalty Song, and the Voice of the Completer was delivered by Adrian Michael Cuizon, marking the successful completion of the NSTP of School Year 2025- 2026.

Rand Ayan Norbe, a Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences (BLIS) graduate, Magna Cum Laude, and former The Ripples Associate Editor (2022-2023) and News Editor (2023-2025), captured the moment with a meaningful and moving speech as the Voice of the Class of 2026 during the 79th Commencement Exercises. According to Norbe, it was difficult to represent the entire batch in just one speech because every graduate blossomed from different realities and different routes, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As college rolled on, it should come as no surprise that all of us took very different routes from one another. Some went studying straight and locked in on the finish line, while others took a different turn and shifted to different lanes: a different program, a different school, a different direction, and of course, there are also others who may not have finished, but through persistence, nonetheless, still made it to the end. College, as they say, is not a race after all."

Norbe also motivated his fellow graduates to have faith in knowing that they will always make it through, as they always do and as they are about to do. He left his batchmates with a famous quote, "May the odds be ever in our favor."

La Consolacion College Bacolod (LCCB) celebrated its 79th Commencement Rites on Friday at the SMX Convention Center, where 438 graduates received diplomas in a ceremony that honored academic achievement, faith, and resilience.

The program, which began at 1:00 P.M., opened with a processional led by the registrar bearing the mace and departmental colors. Academic honorees โ€” Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude, Academic Distinction, and Loyalty Awardees โ€” were followed by graduates accompanied by their parents, board passers, faculty and administrators, Augustinian sisters, the Board of Trustees, and the LCC banner alongside the Philippine flag.

Aljhune Kyle V. Pansinsoy, BLIS Magna Cum Laude, delivered the invocation and welcoming remarks, emphasizing that college provides more than academic training; it builds lasting memories and values. He added that graduation marks not an end but the start of a new chapter in life.

Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Penny V. Sanchez, LPT, PhD, led the presentation of Academic Honors and Loyalty Awards, which were conferred by LCCB School President Sr. Flolyn S. Catungal, OSA. Special citations for board passers were presented by the deans: Ar. Vincent Raymund Y. Alovera, PhD, TM, EdD, (SARFAID); Janrae A. Sanicas, LPT, PhD (SSLATE); and Sr. Irene M. Bancolo, OSA, DMEM (SBIT).

After the Alma Mater Song, Rhoda V. Maghinay, MBA, faculty member of SBIT, was introduced as the commencement speaker. Mary Ruth Abegail O. Ong, a 2002 BS Commerce graduate, delivered a message urging graduates to remain anchored in faith as they embark on their professional and personal journeys.

The ceremony proceeded with the presentation of diplomas to all 438 graduates, followed by the singing of the loyalty song and alumni induction. Rand Ayan D. Norbe, Voice of the Graduates, encouraged classmates to โ€œkeep adding, keep walking, and keep advancingโ€ as they begin their new journeys. The program closed with graduates singing and dancing to their theme song, celebrating their accomplishments with smiles and reflections on their resilience throughout their academic journey.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

As journalists, to voice an opinion is to challenge what others accept as truth. It means facing criticism, differing perspectives, and even the convenient narratives people choose As journalists, to voice an opinion is to challenge what others accept as truth. It means facing criticism, differing perspectives, and even the convenient narratives people choose to believe.

The pursuit of truth is never easy; it is the road less taken. Yet, staying silent is like having perfectly vivid eyes and still choosing blindness.
And so, you challenged perspectives. You picked up your pens and lenses to uncover stories beyond the surface, to stand for what you believe is right, and to become a voice for the voicelessโ€”through journalism.

It was never meant for everyone. It takes a heart willing to tell stories through unique perspectives, eyes that see realities beyond convenience, and the courage to write, draw, photograph, and document the truths of everyday life. More than that, it takes bravery to love the craft despite the challenges that come with it.

As your chapter in the publication comes to an end, the legacy you leave behind will continue to make a mark on our minds and in the institution you served. Let this not be the end of your story. Your words were printed on paper, your photographs preserved countless moments, and your passion helped keep the torch of campus journalism burning brightly.
