Sociology professor suggests mass murder could be seen as a violent form of protest The terrifying part is that once protest tools become part of the repertoire, they are diffused across movements and throughout society.

Chinese Laborers Built Sonoma's Wineries. Racist Neighbors Drove Them Out 15/07/2017

Chinese Laborers Built Sonoma's Wineries. Racist Neighbors Drove Them Out Enjoying a chardonnay or cabernet sauvignon? In the 1800s, Chinese immigrants helped introduce those iconic varietals to California's wine country. But as vineyards grew, so did anti-Chinese fervor.

March for rent control in Santa Rosa seeks to get out the vote 17/05/2017

The "No on C" campaign has outspent "Yes on C" by 7 to 1. You can see this in their blitz of glossy flyers being sent out to Santa Rosans and their large signs and radio ads - a lot of money has come from out of town corporate lobbying groups such as the National Association of Realtors and the California Apartment Association. But Yes on C has heart and is on the side of everyday Santa Rosans; it is an integral part of Santa Rosa City Council's larger plan to address the housing crisis. We will be in the streets, going door to door, and convincing people by telling them the simple truth about Measure C.

March for rent control in Santa Rosa seeks to get out the vote Supporters of Measure C marched from Santa Rosa Junior College to the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters office Tuesday.

How Oakland’s Experimental Music Scene Became Queerer, Browner, and More Femme 14/05/2017

It is refreshing to not only read, but hear new voices that address the universality of illness and disability. They speak to a dimension of human experience not acknowledged by healthist and ableist dominant social ideologies and structures.

"Collander ... a singer making experimental pop that centers her struggles with chronic illness and disability. The artist describes herself as a “a sick, q***r bed-mongering babyghoul” and her 2016 sophomore album, grim bitch/sick s**t, is as vulnerable as it is tongue-in-cheek. Over stripped-down beats that evoke disco and synth pop, Collander candidly sings about the intricacies of navigating relationships, emotional labor, trauma, and, sometimes, simply feeling like s**t."
