Four specialist scientists and lovers of the sea decided to make a series of journeys along the Pacific coast of Peru by air, land and beneath the waves, in order to document the intimate relationship that Peru has always had, and will continue to have, with the sea and the marine fauna it is home to.

The journeys revealed the ancient relationship founded upon respect and reverence which the ancient inhabitants of Peru maintained with their marine environment.

German director Werner Herzog, shot his two most acclaimed films in the peruvian amazon: Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, The Wrath of God. Both starred by the (in) famous Klaus Kinski.
Perhaps the legend of his tortuous relationship with his lead actor overshadows any other tale of Kinski’s insanity.

Herzog once confided that near the end of the Fitzcarraldo production, locals offered to solve the Kinski problem: “They said: ‘Shall we kill him for you?’ And I said: ‘No, for God’s sake! I still need him for shooting. Leave him to me!'”

As the director often points out: “every grown-up man should move a ship up a mountain once in his life”; and clearly Kinski was Herzog’s vessel.
