Minga Peru is a non-profit organization promoting sustainable change in remote communities of the Peruvian Amazon since 1998, to collaboratively build social justic
e with gender equity, environmental stewardship and cultural identity. The Peruvian Amazon is rich in indigenous cultures and has the greatest rainforest biodiversity in the world, but it is one of the most inaccessible and neglected regions of Peru. We empower them and their communities through leadership training workshops, an inter-cultural radio program, and income-generating eco-friendly projects, allowing us to provide much-needed access to information for over 120,000 people and strengthen over 1,200 women from 50 remote communities of the Peruvian Amazon. We believe that peoples’ voice is important and deserves to be heard. With the help of committed donors and international cooperation, we have achieved to break old ways of thinking, including addressing formerly taboo topics such as HIV/AIDS, family planning, sexual rights, violence against women, racism, and discrimination.
