Oneiros Way

François Villon and Bulat Okudzhava came to me so unexpectedly, first while watching a documentary about Wilhelm Reich and then again through Regina Spektor. They arrived the way certain artists do, quietly but at just the right moment.

Artistry often reaches us when we need it most and in dark times it becomes something to hold on to when nothing else seems to mean anything anymore.

A song can be a prayer and a prayer can be an admission of how small we are and how much time we still are given before our worlds stop turning.

Back in 2018, I had met C. shortly before returning to Lima. I was heartbroken from a past relationship, unsure of myself and my songwriting was just as unstructured as I was, but I remember wanting to listen to what he kept asking from me in the rehearsing sessions, structure! Something I thought I could never come up with.

One night, Sakura was purring beside me and the sound felt so reassuring. In her purring I heard a rhythm that reminded me of a synth bass so I started writing one. And then the melodies, even a messy little garageband guitar riff that somehow held everything together. That’s how the draft for “Immersion” began. It came from that small moment of comfort, uncertainty and my need to start over.

I understand now that the love I was searching for wasn’t something I was ever meant to find in someone else. “Immersion” was the beginning of me learning that. And even now with my Sakura no longer in this world, I still dream of her jumping into my bed, purring loudly by my side. When I wake up, I like to believe she really passed by for a moment to reassure me again to go through the bad times and write new chapters with her angelic presence.

To me the seed of this project will always be her 🐱
