My song “How Far We’ve Come” (full song out soon!) is a fitting end of year reflection for me, even though I have lost my voice after a bad flu 😷 this December (thank you antigenic drift), I still look back at all these blessed times together❤️

Back in February’s Valentine’s Day, we were invited to perform at K Farm’s Kennedy town site in a glasshouse, singing love songs. Shoutout to flautist .nelson01

Then in May, as K farm bid farewell to their Kennedy town site, we performed a set at their farewell concert, a fitting loop from first performing there in June 2021. .choy girl power!
In June, Medical Dragons organised by the amazing invited us to play at Fringe Club, The Dairy , and we did an ambitious jazz set with so many talented medics.

The inability to sing as I normally do, reminds me of how we cannot take for granted the condition of our vocal cords 歌王s .kennethliu , the effort we put in to take out our instruments (e.g. polishing off 10+ years of trumpet rust ), to arrange the music (e.g. writing a whole jazz piano interlude ) and arranging the chord charts .lam ), to get the pacing rhythms right, (Nick and ) and to play our parts.
15 of our Synapse artists came together and sang through a program of 20 songs, of Jazz, Broadway, Disney, Cantopop, Mandopop and even my original song. In a haphazard fashion, with our call lists /and schedule with young toddlers at home, somehow we pulled it off, the most ambitious concert in Synapse history.
Truly grateful for each and every one of you bringing a different shade of harmony and flair to this band, and to my life.

Where there’s faith there’s a way
Some passions never change!

“From the start”, this band, Synapse, has been about connection⚡️
Organising this show is a dream I’ve had ( “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”) and instead of “Waiting on a Wish”, I found this 10th anniversary a perfect chance to connect with Synapse’s old friends back in med school.
Going back to the roots
“Show yourself” I said to the musical group at med school.
Then they truly were “Defying Gravity” when they all said YES let’s jam! Let’s do all our 青春頌!!! 敢愛敢做！
However I definitely underestimated the amount of planning required for this show.
The program is so much more complex than I thought. Our band performed a whopping 19 songs, all of variable genres, languages and styles, with different musical arrangements -
Some are big solos, some are jazz with epic improvs, some have original orchestral soundtrack, some even have 3-4 part vocal harmony! 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️

Kenneth .kennethliu bringing the most difficult instrumental challenge to our band - the metal version of 小心地滑 with heavy metal guitar and violin!!!
Seran .music and your superb energetic rendition of 無盡 which brings us back to med school graduation !🎓
I really meant what I wrote in my song “How far we’ve come”, music and passion brings us together and every show (even the rehearsals that were so difficult to schedule) was worth it! Because without music, “你不是真正的快樂”!
