What an incredible feeling to have this entire archeological site with thousands of petroglyphs to ourselves. Not a soul in site, a rare experience in the height of the tourist season in Peru.

It was only a 3 hour drive from the major city of Arequipa. We learned that this site has applied for UNESCO heritage site status and that there are major excavations and ongoing research here. This may the next major destination in Peru in just a few years.

This is the specialty of this town, local freshwater shrimp dishes. Deep fried shrimp dish and Chupe de camarones (soup). A bit overpriced at 70 soles ($20) a dish, but we had to give it s try.

Cusco’s streets came alive this weekend in a vibrant parade celebrating the 200th anniversary of a local school. Students from all grades marched with pride, showcasing traditional dances, colorful banners, and lively music—a beautiful tribute to two centuries of education and community.

The Rota del Sillar in Arequipa, Peru is a stunning white volcanic stone route carved through ancient quarries, where you can walk among towering walls of sillar and witness artisans shaping history with their hands. A true hidden gem for lovers of culture, geology, and breathtaking landscapes!
