Barrel Store Colony co-curator Andy Leleisi'uao has an exhibition opening @ Te Uru on Saturday 25 March, 2 - 6pm which includes an artists floor talk.
Titled UNBEAUTIFUL EVENING, his exhibition includes flood damaged works . . . just as water cycles through its various properties, when its swells settle and throats are quenched, a new process in life begins. . . . .

Barrel Store Colony artist Dagmar Vaikalafi Dyck has a new exhibition opening at OREXART, 221 Ponsonby Rd titled FALANOA.
Opening night is Thu 9 Feb 5 - 7pm + formally opened by Fatu Akelei Feu’u at 5.30pm.
ALL WELCOME.
Dagmar Dyck's paintings are inspired by her cultural heritage and explore traditional textile practices of Tonga including bark cloth mats, baskets and clothes. In this exhibition, Dagmar examines the construction methods used in the Tongan feminine art forms, called koloa. She translates some of this ancestral knowledge into contemporary forms using paint and weaving to voice her own story of ‘being Tongan’ in Aotearoa. The title, falanoa, draws together the concept of talanoa (storytelling) with fala (woven textiles). The exhibition is comprised of paintings on canvas, works on paper and woven installation pieces.

Barrel Store Colony Artist MARCUS HIPA has a solo show opening Scott Lawrie Gallery THIS Saturday, 24 Sept, 11am - 5pm ~ go check it out!!
NATIVE PRACTITIONERS
Marcus Hipa’s powerful and bold paintings are unflinching in their focus on the history and culture of his native Niue.
This focus on manual labour is inherent in each work in the show - combining stories and mythologies from his spiritual home, always with reference to the crushing shadows of colonialism in the background.
