I promise it won't always feel this heavy. Keep going, reach out for help ❀️❀️

No filter phone dump from the past 48hrs.

Sometimes I forget all of this is only a few hours away from my door πŸ₯°

It's not often that I get a moment that aligns with the naively perfect expectations of parenting I had before I had Little A. But when it does ... it's magic ✨

"Mama this is hard work. I'm so proud of you" - Little A, as I haul her and all our gear up a wall of tree roots to visit a beautiful alpine lake.

The lovely have sent me their quirky Intentions Book / Backcountry Journal. It's a unique take on the DOC Intentions Book with prompts to journal, draw, doodle, write while you're out adventuring.

I absolutely love my journal and can't wait to fill mine in during the busy summer I have ahead of me. AND Kemi & Niko have sent me an extra copy to do with as I wanted. So let's hold a little giveaway!

To enter:
- comment your funniest or spookiest backcountry story (one that you would have written in this journal when it happened)

Giveaway closes Friday 5th December.
I'll choose a good story and contact the winner via a DM from this account 😊

I can't wait to read your stories!

I'm so excited for my 2026 Dolomites group hiking holiday, but I've had a lot of requests to organise a tramping trip closer to home. So here it is!

More details will be made available soon but here are the basics:

πŸ“Based out of Borland Lodge on the edge of Fiordland National Park

πŸ—“οΈ Thurs 9 - Sun 12 April 2026 (first week of the school holidays)

πŸ₯Ύ This is so much more than just a tramping trip! Potential itinerary:
Day 1: arrive, river crossing course in the afternoon, evening education session if desired
Day 2: navigation training + day hike to see some beautiful tarns
Day 3 & 4: overnight at a nearby hut

πŸ™‹ Group is limited to 10 people only, plus myself, a helper friend and a professional guide

πŸ’²Included in the trip:
- 3x nights' accomodation
- All meals
- Professional guide with DOC concession
- Chocolate
- River crossing course
- Navigation training
- Great vibes and views
- Transport for trip activities

If you're interested in joining this trip, then mark down Friday 31st October at midday as that's when bookings will open - I'll share the link on my stories.

I might be deluded, but I anticipate this trip will sell out quickly based on the interest I've already been receiving, the small group size and the fact chocolate is included 🍫
So if you want to come then treat this like booking a Great Walk and set an alarm πŸ˜…

And these are just the ones that I've already locked in πŸ˜‚

We'll see what else pops up - most of these aren't toddler friendly, so I'd love to take the Little Adventurer on some more tramps! Just a tricky age where she's getting heavier but still can't walk much distance.

What's on your list?

πŸƒ Tramping Rescue Story #6 πŸƒ

Thank you so much to for sharing her story and photos ❀️

Elissa and a some gal friends were on a group trip to Peach Cove Hut in Northland. But what started as a yearly tramping get-together with friends, suddenly turned to disaster. Her friends had to become first responders and a heli extraction was organised.

Elissa's rescue story highlights a very common hazard most of us will come across when tramping, but probably won't even think twice about. Her story also shows just how important carrying a PLB is, regardless of trip length or difficulty.

If you or someone you know has a rescue story you'd like to share, let me know!
