We’re pleased to see a hive of activity on our campuses as students return for A Trimester.😄

This year The University of Waikato welcomed a larger cohort of students with numbers up 6% on last year, which also provides a positive foundation for future growth at the University. We’ll be sharing details of our next Tauranga Public Lecture soon but if you’re up for a drive over the Kaimai’s to our Hamilton campus, check this out 👇

On Tuesday 26 March The University of Waikato will host a fascinating public lecture 'Beyond the Buzz: The Sobering Economics of Alcohol' by Professor Michael Cameron, an economist in Waikato Management School. Gain valuable insights from his research into some of the societal issues associated with the sale and distribution of alcohol.

New Zealand has a long history with alcohol dating back to 1773, when Captain Cook’s men brewed the country’s first craft beer using mānuka plants in Fiordland. 🍺

More than 250 years later, alcohol consumption has become well entrenched in New Zealand’s cultural landscape and led to a significant impact on our rates of crime, violence, injuries, and accidents.

Registration is essential❗

With a career that spanned 40 years, Craig ventured into some of the world’s toughest environments and fundamentally changed how the scientific community views microorganisms in Antarctica.

But Craig’s impact extended far beyond research. He was a generous family man and mentor, tirelessly sharing his passion and time with students, colleagues and family.
