🌏 Porirua needs you! 🌿
Wahleah Johns reminded us that Indigenous communities hold the knowledge to protect the planet, yet often lack the resources to adapt.🌿
Our marae stand in times of crisis, but climate change is putting them at risk too. The Iwi Chairs Forum is prioritizing action, but we need more voices pushing for change.
How do we ensure our communities lead the way in climate solutions?

White Ribbon Riders in Porirua
Over the weekend, our Hongoeka whānau proudly hosted the ‘White Ribbon Riders’ as part of their annual journey to promote respectful relationships and raise awareness about preventing domestic and sexual violence against women. The ride began in Whakatāne on Monday and concluded at Hongoeka Marae on Saturday.
The White Ribbon Campaign is a nationwide initiative dedicated to supporting communities in addressing violence and promoting positive change. Each year, Toa Te Rōpū Āwhina contributes to the kaupapa through events and activities, including hosting the riders.
The riders arrived on Friday, 22 November, and shared the kaupapa with Mana College students before making their way to Hongoeka Marae, where they were welcomed by the Hongoeka whānau.
On Saturday morning, the riders presented to whānau, kaimahi, and community members, including representatives from Zonta and former local riders.
Lead rider Takurua Tawera expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the group for the manaaki received and acknowledged the sharing of the history of the wharenui and Ngāti Toa.
Each rider spoke about their personal experiences, learnings, and dedication to the kaupapa. Some riders also stopped by the Rangi Mārie Peace Festival in Paekākāriki to show their support before returning home.
We extend our thanks to the White Ribbon Riders for bringing this kaupapa to our community and look forward to hosting them again in the future.
A special mihi to our Hongoeka whānau for their manaaki and tautoko for this important kaupapa.
