Welcome to my quilting blog where I share my long arm quilting adventures

oops, busy weekend with the family, catching a cold, and sleeping in this morning means I didn't get this post out at the usual time, but that is life, up and down, good and not so good. Doesn't the old saying go 'variety is the spice of life'?
Anyway here is a lovely quilt done by Deb J, in reality it is brighter than this, sadly my photos don't do it justice. I have custom quilted with rulers and free motion feathers in white blocks and dark green border.
I did manage to get the labels and hanging sleeves onto my quilts for the Patchwork Unlimited Turua quilt show coming up in early August. More details on that to come soon.
Quiet day in the office today, slowly working on another huge beauty for a client on the long arm.
Happy sewing. ;)

Congrats to the Whangamata Ladies for another amazing quilt show over Kings Birthday weekend, so much creative talent and lovely merchants with many temptations as well.
Sadly, due to coughs and colds the grandkids stayed home, so I did get to spend some time on the long arm machine, finishing my UFO challenge quilt for Patchwork Unlimited Turua, and doing some much needed cleaning up in the girl cave!!
So, this lovely blue and white bunny quilt was made by Denise L and will be gifted to a soon to arrive grandson. So cute.
While quilting this I noticed a bright kingfisher outside the window watching me, and according to google, "The kingfisher symbolizes peace, prosperity, good luck, and focused intent. Because it is a master hunter that glides effortlessly over water, it is widely revered as an emblem of patience, timing, and finding calmness during turbulent times."
Good vibes all round.

Joan H once again has finished an UFO from a few years ago, this lovely red and black quilt. I've quilted an all over loose leaf design to go with floral prints.
Things may slow down the next 3 weeks in the sewing cave, as I'm covering for a work colleague away on holiday, but I do find spending just 30 mins here and there in my sewing space, doing little tasks, helps with my mental well-being!!
Covering Whitianga and Waihi clinics means early morning starts, I get to see the sun rise on the way to work and then the sun set on the way home, so pretty, photos don't really do them justice, right?
I'm looking forward to going to the Whangamata Quilt Show this Kings Birthday weekend as well as some playtime with the grandkids coming to visit.
There wont be a post next Monday.
Stay warm, keep creating.

Brrr it is getting chilly in the mornings now and harder to get out of a nice warm bed!!
Quilting must go on though right? Rosie B has made these first three amazing quilts, this cute bright eyespy top, with matching bright pieced backing has received simple wavy lines by me to add movement to the animals. Then this playful dinosaur top, Elizabeth Hartman pattern, has been covered in a simple leaf all over quilting design. Lastly this stunning rainbow diamond burst pattern has been custom quilted using rulers and free motion designs.
In the background I'm still working on my to do list, using my stash & finishing UFO's, so more on those to come.
Happy crafting.

After a lovely weekend working on my own projects it was back to the long arm.
This pretty blue and cream top was made by Deb J, and I've quilted an all over swirly heart design called p.s. I love you.
A friend has been told many times that she is always smiling, when I saw this poem from Spike MIlligan I thought it was very appropriate.
Be happy and smile!!

These 2 vintage quilts done by Gayle B, one acquired in USA and one from a friend, have been rescued and re-invented ready to be on display and used again, win win!!
I've quilted a pretty all over daisy design on the floral quilt, and a classic baptist fan design on the houses.
Marion B hand stitched this small wall hanging and said make it like a waterfall, so on one side is a rock wall and the other is flowing, splashing water cascading down.
Friday morning I whizzed to the Waiuku Quilt Group Exhibition, well done ladies, what a wonderful display of all your creative work. Plus the morning tea was scrumptious.
Finally I have had an inspiring and productive weekend at a little retreat away from home, with a very entertaining group of fellow creatives and amazing views up the Thames Coast.
Be safe everyone.

Wow, what a stunner of a weekend weather wise, crisp mornings, clear blue skies and warm afternoons for ANZAC weekend. Time to remember the many service personnel of Australia and New Zealand, who served in war & conflict for our freedom. Thank you.
Last week this beautiful huge blue and cream quilt was returned to Margaret B. I've densely custom quilted, graffitti style, the background with stars and a flowing milky way which extends into the border.
Our family also celebrated our mother's 90th birthday the weekend before, with many laughs over old photos and stories of past family gatherings.
Lastly Waiuku show is on this Friday and Saturday so get along to get inspired.

Here is a beautiful and huge king size, all green quilt made by Jenny D. A fantastic way to use up all those bits of one colour fabric. On this one, I have quilted an allover meandering leaf pattern to follow the nature theme.
Sadly things have been a bit slow in the sewing studio, due to other work comittments, but am hoping to catch up soon.
Heres a fun photo of the grandsons playing in the water after the recent storm!!
Not sure where the oars are, as this old dinghy has been lying around out the back for many years!! I have threatened to put a flower garden in it, lol. The water drains away quickly once stops raining.
