Soon it will be time to wean Liberty 🥰 she has such a good relationship with Kitty I'm not anticipating any major issues.
I'm keen to get her out and about and floating is one of those things I feel should be done early on so it's not a case of having to - therefore stressful
So so many people get floating / trailer loading wrong.
They put pressure on the horses at the ramp. They have all sorts of methods from bum ropes to dragging them on at the very place you want them to be relaxed.
Then it takes 10 times as long to undo the trauma they cause.
I think most of us have had that experience of horse not going on and how frustrating it is.
Yes you can ask them but flapping, whipping, growling, whacking, yanking and all the 💩 you see people do to load their horses is really counter productive. If it does work, it's out of sheer fear to get away from you that they load not because you taught them.
So Liberty is relaxed. No one is clicking, flapping or anything else. She's been on twice, no fuss.
The same goes for jumping. Don't whack, flapping, growl, whip at the very place you want them to be. They shouldn't be doing things because they are afraid, that isn't a long term solution. Eventually they will end up in the hands of someone who isn't going to use force and then all you taught them from fear falls apart.
Teach them from a place of comfort and then it's easy 😊

Not much has changed except she's gone from minis and standardbreds to Xbreds and Warmbloods.
Trained 100s of little ponies to jump, which has kept her behind where she wants to be. Giselle always has to start at the beginning with the new ones and it can be frustrating to watch other kids her age excell with their beautiful ponies while she is stuck in the basics.
We are so grateful to have been given Sugar who is helping Giselle reach her goals. Not that, it has been easy, Sugar hadn't jumped in years and isn't the easiest to maneuver.
Its been 3 months, Sugar has put on muscle and is getting back into the swing of it.
Really appreciate the support and kindness of people who know Giselle is working her ass off with nothing behind her except determination and let's face it, a skill not many 13 years olds have.
She can teach any pony to jump but it's so nice to have one she doesn't need to teach, she just needs to get her fit ❤️
Zadels first clear 90cm, Giselle has worked so hard on this. Granted he's had barely a year of jumping under his belt. Late to the game as a 6 year old with zero natural ability (trust me on that 🤣) and 6 months off with abscesses and a minor gate incident 🙄 this is such a major milestone for them both.
They have had 1 lesson with Amanda Wilson but the rest has been Giselle from breaking him in to this.
She was super proud of him today and got an amazing compliment from the judges on her quiet riding. He places 2nd in 70cm 1st in 80cm and 2nd in 90cm.
The foal that was never suppose to be has turned into a fantastic horse, we couldn't be happier with 💕
Super happy with Candy today. Not only did she load on the straight loader faster than Larry - for context she has never floated before only trucked twice in her life, one as a foal and one to come to us and Larry has floated plenty - she took going out on the farm in her stride.
She didn't fuss with Flash at all, stood by to do the gates, had to trot at times to keep up with Flash and when a van was wheel spinning on gravel and Larry took off she only trotted forward a bit.
This is some great beginnings for her ❤️
Liberty was so easy to worm today 🥰.
When you have young ones things like leading, tieing up, picking up hooves for trimming and worming should be done early on so A. Its not stressful for them or you later on and B. Less troublesome and or dangerous.
Liberty literally stood there got wormed end of story.
Where are Candy who is 4 with limited handling ran around the paddock for an hour after she saw the wormer tube.
I thought we might be in for a battle but in the end the actual worming was easy as.
Catching her isn't always easy so its the thing we will work on. She also knows she is strong and can run through you so we have to work on that as well

Now kitty isn't outside my door change rugs morning noon and night isn't an option. I hate over rugging, I hate watching horses standing in paddocks looking miserable because its 18° outside and they are in a 200gm rug, clipped or not old or not I'm in a t-shirt and they have fur.
The simple heavy cotton rug is utterly amazing. Better than some of the canvas options ive used.
This one is a cheap one from the SW. Not the economy canvas they have, those are no good for keeping off rain.
But these are brilliant. After all that rain kitty is dry underneath.
Once it gets colder and or wetter I might pop her in a no fill.
People always say no fills aren't that waterproof but if this simple cotton rug can keep off the rain then a no fill definitely can.
What i think people don't take into account is that horses roll, the rugs can leak anywhere the horse moves, so of they are sleeping or playing or rolling water can get in.
The cotton sheet just dries super fast.
Keep it mind if yoh have trees for shelter and your horse isn't clipped then these are a great option to save the on and off routine.
We have moved yet again 😭 only because the house we had was literally falling apart and the black mould was crazy. So poor Amaro keeps getting put on the back burner as stuff always happens.
I did a bit of ground work on the week leading up to the move but now we are at the new place (next to our old old place funnily enough) we have a quiet farm to ride on which suits us way better.
Always pays to be nice and appreciated people who are good to you, don't take them for granted ✨️.
At any rate, Amaro is pretty good with obstacles and such. He was always head shy when he first arrived, making him hard to catch, not because he ran away but because he didn't want a halter on. Hated the bridle too.
I think perhaps this stage was rushed by whoever started him originally. So we are over that now but still anything above his head he pulls away from. Getting better though 😊.
We will get him going again over winter and he is available if we can find the right home for him.
Liberty is off adventuring without her mum which is great news.
We need to start the weaning process. Over the next wee while we will be slowly separating them. I'm always careful because I worry separation anxiety can start at this point if you do it wrong. I get some foals are not bothered and I get some dams are happy to go their separate ways but these 2 are usually quite attached.
This is a first foal which is always a bit more difficult I think. Anyway we will keep you posted.
