It’s with great sadness we farewell one of South Auckland great community leaders Fa’anānā Efeso Collins who sadly passed away yesterday morning. We are still in shock.

Efeso was one of our main judges at Storytellers for many years and was always the first to put his hand up because in his own right he led the way as an incredible storyteller and orator himself who served people with empathy, love and action.

Our prayers, love and condolences go to his wife Fia and their two precious girls, as well as Efeso’s mother at this time.

Ia manuia lou malaga, Fes . 🙏🏽🤍🕊️

From all our Storytellers alumni to one of the great storytellers

Alofa atu, Iosefo

SOME RECORDING TIPS

1. Place the camera at eye level with wide view of waist up and full body view. This also gives you opportunity to use your hands and body language to add value to your speech.

2. Be careful to check what is behind you as it can sometimes be a distraction to the viewers – don't be too close to the wall, watch for shadows and backgrounds that are disruptive.

3. Let the natural light be on your face and not behind you.

4. Avoid rooms that create an echo – sound is important.

5. Speak into the camera – look at the camera. This helps you to make that connection with the people.

6. Don't yell – speak boldly & normally, smile and have good energy. Be yourself – be authentic. Be original!

7. Be mindful of clothes with stripes and patterns – can be hard to get your camera to focus. Darker colours are always better. We encourage all participants to wear formal school uniform or formal wear.

8. Keep it short (4 mins minimum to 6 minutes max). Remember Intro, Body of speech and summary or wrap up with a challenge.
Check out previous finalist speeches for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu9HN1AOMl7uFNoKpH5rJJQ

9. Record in Landscape Mode – side ways.

10. A ZOOM Q & A will be advertised to ask your questions. Please keep your eyes open for this.
