๐จ Quick heads-up before you finish your coffee, Bay of Plenty! โ
Microsoft just rolled out security fixes for Edge (built on Chromium), and this isn't just routine housekeeping. One of the vulnerabilities patched has already been exploited in the wild, which in plain English means: baddies were already using it before the fix landed. ๐ฌ
The pain point? Most of us click "remind me later" on browser updates about... always. Life's busy, we get it! But an out-of-date browser is basically leaving a window unlocked while you're at work; convenient for you, very convenient for cybercriminals too.
The good news? This one's an easy fix:
1๏ธโฃ Open Edge
2๏ธโฃ Click the three dots (โฏ) โ Help and feedback โ About Microsoft Edge
3๏ธโฃ Let it auto-update (it usually does this on its own โ but don't ignore that "restart to update" prompt!)
So quick, your coffee's still hot. โฑ๏ธ
Not sure if your business's devices are all patched and protected? That's exactly the kind of thing we love sorting out, so you can get back to running your business instead of babysitting update notifications.
๐ Give Click Quick a shout; we'll make sure your systems are locked up tighter than Nana's biscuit tin. ๐ช
We're like the superheroes of local business growth ๐!
Need a tech rescue? We've got you covered with:
โข A computer that doesn't take a coffee break
โข A network that's more reliable than your favourite coffee shop's Wi-Fi
โข Security that's tighter than your aunt's purse strings
โข A website that's fresher than a just-opened packet of biscuits
โข And IT support that's always on call (no after-hours fees, we promise!)
Click Quick is here to save the day with friendly, down-to-earth service that's as local as your favourite fish 'n' chip shop.

We know, we know. Tech news can feel like homework. So we've done the reading, so you don't have to. Here's your weekly wrap, Click Quick style:
๐ NZ's Digital Backbone is Getting Stronger
More investment is flowing into data centres, fibre, and international connections right here in New Zealand. That means faster, more reliable online services for homes and businesses across the motu. Good news all round.
๐ Time to Stop Hitting "Later" on Those Updates
Windows and Android have both rolled out fresh updates this week. Those little notification badges you've been ignoring? They're actually doing you a favour. Updates fix security gaps, improve performance, and keep your devices running the way they should.
๐ฃ Scammers Are Still Fishing. Don't Take the Bait.
Phishing emails and fake login pages are still catching Kiwis off guard. If an email feels a little off, trust that instinct. One click can cause a lot of grief.
Click Quick tip of the week:
Turn on multi-factor authentication, keep your devices updated, and when in doubt, give us a call before you click.
We're here to keep your home and business tech safe, sorted, and stress-free across Western Bay of Plenty and beyond. ๐ช

I get calls all the time from frustrated people who are ready to buy whole new setups because their computers have become unusable.
Last month, a client was convinced her three-year-old laptop was dying because it took forever to open emails, and Word kept crashing. She was shopping for replacements online when she called me.
Turns out, her Microsoft 365 was syncing massive files she didn't know about, her browser had forty-two tabs open from last month, and she had three different backup programs all trying to run at once.
Two hours of cleanup later, her laptop was back to performing the way it should, saving her the cost of an unnecessary replacement.
The reality is, most performance problems aren't hardware failures. They're just digital clutter and poor configuration. Your computer doesn't know it's supposed to slow down after two years; something is making it slow down.
Don't replace what we can repair.

๐ Let's have an honest conversation about your passwords.
If your password is your pet's name, your birthday, or please no, the word "password"... we need to talk. ๐
Here are 4 password habits that are putting you at risk right now:
1๏ธโฃ Reusing the same password across multiple accounts, if one gets hacked, they all do
2๏ธโฃ Short passwords, anything under 12 characters is considered weak by today's standards
3๏ธโฃ No two-factor authentication, this one extra step blocks over 99% of automated attacks
4๏ธโฃ Storing passwords in a notebook or sticky note, yes we have seen it ๐
โ
The easy fix? A free password manager like Bitwarden or LastPass does the hard work for you.
๐ฌ Be honest in the comments, are you guilty of any of these? No judgement here, we are all friends! ๐

โ ๏ธ SCAM ALERT - Katikati & Western Bay Community โ ๏ธ
The local Katikati Neighbourhood Support weekly newsletter just came through, and this has been shared.
Two scams are actively targeting our community right now. Please read and share.
๐ด SCAM #1 โ The Fake Spark Call
A local elderly resident lost thousands of dollars after receiving a call from someone claiming to be from Spark about a "network upgrade." After two hours on the phone, the scammer had remote access to their device and money was transferred out. They even convinced them to leave their bank cards in an envelope at the front door.
๐ If anyone calls claiming to be from your telco or bank asking for device access, hang up immediately.
๐ด SCAM #2 โ The Fake NZ Police Text
People are receiving texts claiming to be from NZ Police saying they have unpaid fines with a link to pay. This is a scam. NZ Police do not send texts like this.
๐Do not click the link. Delete the message.
โ
What you can do right now:
Talk to your elderly parents, grandparents, and neighbours about these scams. They're being targeted.
And if you're not 100% sure your devices and home network are secure, reach out to Henry at Click Quick. I am local, trusted, and can check if everything is locked down properly.
If something doesn't feel right, I want to hear from you.

How secure is your business really? ๐ค
This week, the GCSB(Government Communications Security Bureau) said New Zealandโs cyber security maturity is still highly variable, and in some cases, organisations are only barely meeting the basic standards expected.
The good news is that improving your cybersecurity doesnโt have to be overwhelming. Often, the biggest wins come from getting the basics right.
One of the biggest issues?
Known weaknesses and unpatched vulnerabilities are still giving attackers an easy way in.
Swipe through for 5 practical steps that can help strengthen your businessโs cybersecurity. ๐ Biggest wins come from getting the basics right.

A recent report revealed that 44% of Kiwi businesses were successfully hit by a cyber attack last year, and of those:
๐ด 17% had personal data stolen
๐จ 21% feared their data would be used for blackmail or extortion
๐ธ 1 in 3 said they'd consider paying a ransom to get it back
Here's the thing though, paying a ransom is never a guarantee you'll get your data back. Cybercriminals aren't exactly known for keeping their promises! ๐
The businesses that came out on top? The ones who had the right protections in place BEFORE anything went wrong.
At Click Quick, we help homes and businesses right here in the Western Bay of Plenty get ahead of these threats with practical, no-jargon solutions that actually work. ๐ช
