EDIT : SOLD!

I've been working on something a little different for Artiflax ...

And I'm so excited to finally share it with you! 💚

Introducing Kawakawa Taonga ... a handcrafted piece of wall art inspired by one of Aotearoa's most recognisable native leaves.

Three ceramic kawakawa leaves are suspended from a beautifully hand woven flax cord, bringing together ceramic, harakeke and nature in one simple, earthy piece.

I wanted this artwork to feel like a little piece of the natural world brought into the home.

I love the way the ceramic leaves have their own character, with their organic shapes, delicate openings and beautiful green-grey tones. And the braided flax brings warmth and texture, connecting the three leaves together as though they are growing along a vine.

The little holes you see in the leaves are intentional too, inspired by the distinctive markings found on real kawakawa leaves. It's those little details that make me love this piece so much.

I've called it Kawakawa Taonga.

Taonga speaks to something treasured or precious ... and that's exactly how I hope this piece feels when it finds its home. Something made by hand, inspired by Aotearoa, and created to be treasured. 🤍

This is the first of a new direction I'm exploring with Artiflax ... creating pieces that aren't necessarily flowers, but still carry the same heart...

Nature. Handmade craftsmanship. Aotearoa. And stories worth keeping.

Kawakawa Taonga is now available at Artiflax.

If this beautiful piece speaks to you, you can find it here:

I'd love to know what you think of this new direction for Artiflax. ❤️

We wrapped up our Whenua & Harakeke workshop today, with everyone learning some basic harakeke weaving techniques to incorporate into the clay pieces they created a few weeks ago.

To say there are some incredibly talented artisans out there is an absolute understatement. Every single piece was simply WOW! It was such a privilege to see everyone's creativity come to life through the combination of clay and weaving.

This workshop was an absolute joy to be part of.

A huge thank you to the Waikato Society of Potters for hosting this wonderful event, and to the talented ceramicist, Dave Austin, who bravely invited me to co-facilitate this workshop alongside him.

It was a pleasure sharing this experience with such a fantastic group of creatives.

Swipe through to see some of the incredible work created over the past few weeks. I'm so proud of what everyone achieved!

We have something super fun coming up for Matariki!

I've been asked to run a Whenua & Harakeke workshop along side artist, Dave Austin, at Waikato Society of Potters. We will explore using the two mediums: clay and flax, to create unique pieces of art.

If you're keen to sign up, do it soon, there are only a few spots available!

Soooooo..... I'm needing a bit of feedback please my lovelies....

My flax bouquets are quite popular but do you think I should have a selection of vase arrangements ready for immediate purchase? Thinking these could be a nice alternative if you're wanting to gift someone something for their home or office.

Let me know your thoughts!

This gorgeous pretty was added to the website today and there is only one available so first in first served.
