If you’re preparing your home for sale, outdoor seating can be a quick and cost-effective way to enhance your exterior. Help set the scene and add context with couches on the deck, a bench seat by the door or a table and chairs in the courtyard.

A Project Information Memorandum (PIM), is issued by your local council to provide any information regarding proposed building work on a property. It'll include existing sewage and storm water pipes, heritage status of existing buildings, and any special features of the land.

If you’re desperate to get on the property ladder but are struggling to save your deposit, take a moment to explore your KiwiSaver options. If you’ve been in a KiwiSaver scheme for more than 3 years, and you meet the relevant criteria, you may be able to withdraw the bulk of your savings to use as a first home deposit. Consider upping your contributions, and talk to your provider about what scheme you should be on – swapping to a more aggressive growth fund could make a big difference (but beware, quicker growth invariably comes with greater risk).

To work out how much paint to buy, you need to know; the surface area to be painted, the paint's approximate spread rate, and how many coats you'll need to do. Work out total surface area, divide it by the spread rate, and then multiply your answer by the number of coats. If you're not keen on manual calculations, just Google 'paint calculator' and you'll find a myriad of free tools available that work it out for you.

Don’t wait until the week before you shift to start hunting for boxes to pack your stuff in. As soon as you list your home, head to the shops and grab some cartons and packing tape. Alternatively, pop down to the supermarket and see if they’ve got any old cartons floating around that they’re happy to give you. If you’ve got your boxes ready from the get-go, you can start chipping away as you tidy and declutter your home ahead of viewings.
