Coalesce was born from a lack of accessibility for emerging artists in the art scene. It is the first of many to come. With the intention to make opportunities, facilitate regular group shows at exhibition venues. I (Gabby) wanted to carve out space for the artists who haven’t necessarily had access to mentorship in universities, for artists who feel the pressures of the unwritten and written rules of the art world. By creating community and generating a collective of artists that assist, uplift and eventually evolve a place where younger artists can meet with established artists. To not just create opportunities but to share opportunities. The concept behind these shows was inspired by previous artist-led movements that challenged standard practices in the art world ; such as Dada-ism and Impressionism. Taking more from the core of the outcomes that these artists created from their own rejection, rather than direct protest via art style per se’. Challenging traditional perceptions about what and how a gallery show is run such as bringing non ‘fine art’ artists into these spaces, giving artists more autonomy over their work by displaying existing pieces (many art shows have prerequisites around this) and not locking artists into contracts. There are many ideas about what makes an artist worthy of presentation in such spaces including not displaying with shows/galleries perceived to not evoke prestige. Our ethos seeks to challenge this.

NEW VENUE, (we had a venue it fell through, we have a new venue) the show goes on.

Held at Two4Nine gallery which is an awesome gallery space that is part of A Supported Life. Which is a space that provides support for people with learning disabilities in the heart of Te Atatu South⭐️

- There is free parking in the countdown carpark and at the club behind the venue
- Yes! There will be free drinks and nibbles

After opening the show will be open til the 29th May usual gallery hours

So bring your friends, tell your whanau, support local artists and a caring community space!

I thought it was time I did another introduction post for everyone whose new here! I hope this gives you an idea about who I am and what Im doing as a creator. I'm just tryna live up to the dreams of lil Gabby.

Animated films are a huge part of my life, I love ducks and I have a rabbit named Roo who is the sun and the moon to me ✨

About 6 years ago I started having lots of different weird symptoms happening in my body and that journey has been wild but has shaped where Im at now. Im not sure where I sit with my chronic fatigue and pain but it disrupts alot of my life. Including my ability to make. But it also gives me pretty awesome inspiration and art has always been an outlet for my experience of life!

I struggle with anxiety and confidence in myself so I get really weird about posting and social media in general. I find social situations pretty overwhelming so if I dont see you or recognise you, its not personal Im just anxious/dissociative 🙃 I mask pretty well I think? Anyways say hi, Im always happy to see you and it brings me so much happiness to see my art on your bodies or somewhere cosy in your house!!

This done stressed me out trying to get it done for big gay out, thank you so much to everyone who played dentist for the day. There were definitely some kinks to work out but I am so happy with how it came together. I really enjoy making these kinds of projects - makes me feel alive.
