🐄 Paspalum Staggers Alert 🐑 - we're seeing cases right across the district at the moment from Wairoa, Mahia, Rere, Otoko.

What is Paspalum Staggers?
Paspalum staggers is a nervous disorder caused by livestock grazing on paspalum grasses infected with a toxic fungus. The risk is highest after humid, wet summers, when seed heads develop yellow-grey fungal bodies.

Who’s at risk?

Cattle (most common)
Sheep & horses
Symptoms may appear within days of grazing affected pastures.
Signs to watch for:
✔️ Trembling & shaking
✔️ Jerky, uncoordinated movements
✔️ Falling over when running
✔️ Aggression or being hard to handle
✔️ Loss of body condition over time

Prevention & Management:
🌾 Move stock off infected paddocks
🌿 Provide clean pasture
✂️ Top pastures to remove seed heads
🚰 Ensure safe water access
📈 Often quick recovery once off affected pasture

When: Saturday 22nd of March - Gates open 7.30am, performance begins 10.30am

Tickets are available at the gate or on Eventfinda.

- Children $15
- Infants under 5 free
- Family pass $65 (2 adults and 2 children)

Cash or eftpos will be available.

There will be plenty of food, drink, displays and stall holders but make sure you arrive early to steal the best spots for your picnic blankets.

The competition is especially hot this year and it will be whoever rises to the occasion that will take the top spot. ☝️
