Giving 3D printer waste a second life ♻️

At Black Rook Creations in Feilding, leftover 3D printing material is being transformed into something new.

With support from MDC’s Waste Not Want Not Fund, the business has been collecting 3D printer waste from their own studio and other businesses across the Manawatū. The material is sorted, shredded, heat-pressed into sheets, and laser cut into new products.

In just six months, they’ve collected 91kg of 3D printing waste, helping keep it out of landfill.

One of the creations made from the recycled material is these colourful buttons, which were produced for a local charitable group that knits clothing for infants.

It’s a creative example of waste minimisation in action, and shows how local ideas can make a real difference.
