☀️ Why your skin therapist keeps banging on about sunscreen

Because sunscreen isn't just for summer.

365 days a year.

UVA rays are present year-round and contribute to pigmentation, loss of firmness, wrinkles and premature skin ageing.

Sunscreen is one part of your sun protection, alongside:

🧴 SPF
🧢 Hats
🕶️ Sunglasses
👕 Lightweight, protective clothing
🌳 Shade

And for your face, use a dedicated sunscreen underneath your makeup. The SPF in your moisturiser or foundation isn't a substitute because most of us don't apply enough product to achieve the labelled protection.

Aim for around 5 mL for your face, neck and décolletage.

Good facial sunscreens can cost more because quality formulations and rigorous SPF/UVA testing are expensive.

Cheap doesn't automatically mean bad, and expensive doesn't automatically mean good. Formulation, testing and suitability for your skin matter.

A few things I think are worth knowing before your next facial 🤍

You don't need to know what treatment you need, and you definitely don't need perfect skin.

That's my job, to assess where your skin is at and work with it from there.

Your skin is allowed to change. Mine does too. 🤍

Your skin doesn’t always need more products. Sometimes it needs support. ✨

From a spare room to Beauty Marque 🤍

Five years ago, Beauty Marque started in a spare room of our home.

Since then, the business has grown, changed direction and eventually outgrew that little room, leading us to convert half of our garage into the salon I have today.

Looking back at these photos, it’s easy to see how much the physical space has changed.

But the biggest growth has been everything that has happened within it.

The treatments, the learning, the skin journeys, the memberships, the familiar faces who have become friends and the confidence that has grown with the business.

It’s been quite a journey.

About business, about skincare, about clients, and probably most importantly, about myself.
