Get wild at work (in a good way) 21/08/2025

Conservation Week is here - who's ready to get their hands dirty?

DOC is calling on workplaces across Aotearoa to "Take action for nature" during Conservation Week, and Rogue Drones is all in.
I'll be getting out there doing my part - whether it's beach clean-ups, helping with local habitat restoration, or removing that which shouldn't be there. Real conservation impact happens when we all step up, not just talk about it.

Our native species are under pressure, and they need more than good intentions. They need action. They need all of us rolling up our sleeves and making a difference in our local communities.

Conservation that delivers real impact starts with people who care enough to act.

Killing weeds and wildings for economic growth 05/08/2025

Good to see the government boosting wilding pine funding: $10M annual baseline, $2M boost from this year's budget, plus an extra $1M per year from the new allocation.
But here's the reality check: 2 million hectares affected, spreading at 5% annually. That's less than $6.50 per hectare per year to tackle one of our biggest landscape-scale conservation challenges.
The article mentions "world-leading early detection technology" - and that's exactly where the leverage is. At $6.50 per hectare, we need every efficiency gain we can get.
Conservation technology has real potential here. Early detection, precision mapping, targeted intervention - working smarter when the conservation budget is stretched this thin.
