Applying for a job 08/06/2026

🚨 PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ABOUT JOBS IN NEW ZEALAND 🚨

One of the most common messages immigration advisers receive is:

❓"Can you help me get a job offer in New Zealand?"

The answer is No.

To apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), you must first obtain:

✅ A genuine job offer from a New Zealand accredited employer
✅ A Job Check token provided by that employer
✅ The skills, qualifications, experience, and other requirements specified in the Job Check

⚠️ Immigration advisers cannot obtain job offers for clients and cannot assist with finding employment. Our role begins once you have secured a genuine employment opportunity.

🚫 NEVER PAY FOR A JOB OFFER

If someone asks you to pay for a job offer, walk away.

Paying for employment in New Zealand is unlawful and, in most cases, it is a scam. Genuine employers do not sell jobs.

🔎 WHERE TO LOOK FOR JOBS

The two largest job websites in New Zealand are:

👉 Trade Me Jobs
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/jobs

👉 SEEK New Zealand
https://www.seek.co.nz/

📄 YOUR CV AND COVER LETTER ARE CRITICAL

Many applicants spend months applying for jobs without success because their CV and cover letter are not written to New Zealand standards.

Before applying for any role, make sure you have:

✅ A New Zealand-style CV/Resume
✅ A cover letter tailored specifically to the advertised position
✅ Professional English with no spelling or grammatical mistakes
✅ Relevant qualifications and experience clearly explained

Helpful resources:

🛠 FREE CV BUILDERS

You generally do not need to pay someone to write your CV.

Useful tools include:

👉 Careers NZ CV Builder
https://www.careers.govt.nz/tools/cv-builder/

👉 SEEK Resume Tools

✍️ DON'T NEGLECT THE COVER LETTER

A cover letter should not simply repeat your CV. It should explain:

• Why you are applying for the role
• Why you are suitable for the position
• What skills and experience you bring to the employer
• Why the employer should interview you

Cover letter templates:
https://www.careers.govt.nz/job-hunting/cvs-and-cover-letters/templates/

📋 BE "DOCUMENT READY"

Many employers prefer candidates who can proceed quickly.

Consider having ready:

✅ Passport copy
✅ Qualifications and transcripts
✅ Employment references
✅ Police certificates (if available)
✅ Any other documents required to support a future visa application

Being document-ready can make the hiring process much smoother once an employer decides to offer you a position.

🍀 Happy job hunting, and remember:

No genuine employer sells jobs.

No genuine adviser can obtain a job offer for you.

The best pathway to New Zealand employment starts with a strong CV, a tailored cover letter, and applying directly to genuine employers.

🇳🇿 NEW WORK VISA OPTIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATES – FROM 16 NOVEMBER 2026 🇳🇿

Immigration New Zealand has announced important new post-study work visa options for international students graduating in New Zealand.

Key changes include:

✔ Introduction of a new 6-month Short-term Graduate Work Visa (SGWV)
✔ Available for eligible NZQCF Level 5–7 graduates who do not qualify for a Post Study Work Visa (PSWV)
✔ Students must have studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 24 weeks
✔ English language, foundation, and bridging programmes are NOT eligible

There are also important changes to Post Study Work Visa eligibility:

✔ Graduate Diploma holders who already hold a Bachelor’s Degree may now qualify for a PSWV
✔ This includes Bachelor’s Degrees obtained outside New Zealand
✔ The PSWV may be granted for up to 1 year depending on study duration in New Zealand
✔ The entire Graduate Diploma must have been studied in New Zealand
❌ Recognised prior learning, cross-crediting, or similar exemptions will not count toward eligibility

⚠️ Very important: graduates can only apply within 3 months of their relevant student visa expiring.

These changes may create new opportunities for many international students who previously had limited post-study work options.

New Zealand is introducing a Citizenship Test from late 2027 as part of the citizenship by grant process.

At this stage, there are NO changes to current citizenship applications, but the Government has confirmed that future applicants will need to pass a test covering knowledge of New Zealand, including rights, responsibilities, democratic principles, and the structure of Government.

Some people support the change, saying it may help strengthen understanding of New Zealand values and society. Others are concerned it could create extra barriers for migrants who have already contributed to New Zealand for many years.

The key thing right now is that there is still time to prepare, and official learning materials will be released well before the test becomes mandatory.

Official Government information about the proposed citizenship test can be found here:

If you are planning your long-term pathway to New Zealand citizenship, now is a good time to start getting professional immigration advice about your eligibility and future options.
