The Spikers and Invitational teams fielded over 50 players across two sides — how good is that?

A massive credit to everyone involved, from the players and coaches to the clubs and supporters who continue to get behind rugby in our region. Days like today show the strength, growth, and depth of the game in Central Otago.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the Central Otago rugby community for getting behind the Spikers this weekend. After being defaulted to again, we’re fortunate to be able to get a game thanks to a Central Otago Invitational side made up of players from clubs across the region.

A special thank you to Upper Clutha, Cromwell, Matakanui and Alexandra Rugby Clubs for stepping up and helping make this fixture happen.

A hard-fought game from the Central Otago Spikers. The boys showed plenty of grit and put together a strong second-half effort, but couldn’t claw back the deficit.

We’ll take the lessons from today and get back to work this week.

Not the news we were hoping to share, but unfortunately Harbour has defaulted this weekend’s fixture.

The squad was ready and excited for the challenge, so it’s disappointing not to get the opportunity to take the field. That said, we’ll keep building, keep improving, and stay focused on what’s ahead.
