New research out from DTN puts a number on something event professionals already know in their gut.
More than 90% of weather-related decisions happen within 48 hours of an event. Nearly a third happen during live ex*****on, as conditions are actively changing.
The problem isn't access to weather data. It's translating that data into confident, timely action - while simultaneously managing safety, operations, finances, and stakeholders in real time.
That confidence gap is where things go wrong.
The DTN report - Weather Risk in Event Operations: The Gap Between Forecasts, Decisions, and Outcomes - is worth a read if weather is any part of your event planning.
Key finding that stood out: repeated weather disruptions can accumulate financial impact well beyond $25,000, sometimes exceeding $100,000.

Auckland FC made history on Saturday. A-League champions in just their second season, and the first New Zealand team to ever win an A-League Men grand final. At a sold-out Go Media Stadium. On home soil. Incredible.
But beyond the result, we want to talk about the energy. In a year where NZ has needed a lift, this was more than a football match - it was a reminder of what sport, vision, and community can actually do. When was the last time the whole country stopped and celebrated something together? Saturday felt like that. That's the power of events. Getting people in a room (or a packed stadium), around a shared purpose, or goal.
We're pretty excited to have Nick Becker, CEO of Auckland FC, joining us at Eventing the Future this August, talking vision, the journey, and what it takes to build something that moves a nation.
