End of year update! Let's start with some amazing news. Today, one of our dotterel chicks hatched at Manly Beach! Thanks to our amazing dotterel minders volunteers who've been working hard to keep the nest and parents safe and keep beach users informed.
Today was our first business meeting of the term where we approved our first round of local grants (congratulations to all the amazing organisations who received funding and also thanks to all those who submitted.)
Jake will be returning as the Destination Orewa Beach Business Association local board representative, and has been appointed to provide feeeback on land owner applications, and resource consent applications alongside
Julia Parfitt and Gregg Walden.
Gemma and Jake have attended Hibiscus Coast school prize giving ceremonies around the coast to present our local board scholarships and celebrate many of our local rangatahi's successes.
It was great to see our local board supported Orewa Santa Parade bringing joy to so many this weekend. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Stay safe and enjoy the summer. It's going to be a hot one!
Thanks to Di Waring for the Dotterel photo!

It’s been a full-on and exciting start since Jake and Gemma were elected to represent our Coast! After inductions and the official inauguration, they’ve both jumped straight into community life.
Gemma’s back at the surf club for the season (a club we love supporting!) and recently presented a special scholarship at Orewa College which is extra cool since she’s an alumni there.
Jake’s been out connecting with locals too, speaking at the Youth Hauora Network’s end-of-year gathering about wellbeing and opportunities for our young people. Exciting news which is that W***y Wilson is the new Youth Hauora network coordinator!
Awesome to see both already out there representing and giving back to the community that helped get them here. There is a lot of hard work that needs to be done this term, representing our Coast Community!

We had our Local Board inauguration this evening, the first inauguration to take place in Auckland following the election. Congratulations to Gemma who has become the Hibiscus Coast's newest local board member. Jake is honoured to have accepted the position of deputy chair for the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.

Preliminary results are out! Really ecstatic that Gemma on our Coast Community team came second, and Nick has also done so well. Our positive vision for the Hibiscus Coast clearly resonated with voters. Thank you everyone for your amazing support!
Yesterday we took all our signs down, and that's a wrap on the campaign!
I just want to personally thank everyone that supported us during this campaign. There's a lot of hard work that goes into a campaign, and it carries a significant personal and financial cost.
We ran a grassroots campaign supported by passionate locals, our family and friends, and we did the work ourselves.
From deciding on our advocacy points and vision for the Hibiscus Coast, to putting up and taking down (and repairing) signs in wind and rain, to delivering almost 30 thousand flyers to your letterbox, attending numerous candidate events, making videos to share our perspective and intentions, and responding to numerous questions (how do I vote? Why aren't you running for councillor?)
One thing is clear. Nick, Gemma and I couldn't have done this without your support. So I'd like to thank those who helped us, whether it was talking to family and friends, handing out or delivering our flyers, coming to our campaign launch, contributing to our campaign costs, or sharing our videos, thank you so much for your help and support!
I am so proud of what we have achieved during this campaign, and the vision we shared for what our Coast Community can be.
Thank you to Nick and Gemma who joined me for the first time, taking a risk to run for local board, taking time away from their families and trying something new! I appreciate you both immensely, your support and positivity has made this campaign such a rewarding experience.
Voting closes at midday today, so still a couple hours left to get your vote in at a library or supermarket.
For now, we wait, fingers crossed for a good outcome for our team, and wishing good luck to all the candidates who ran this election.
- Jake

What AT has proposed for the Hibiscus Coast just doesn't cut the mustard.
That's why a vote for Coast Community will ensure that not only do we deliver the Whangaparāoa bus station and save the Gulf Harbour ferry, but we will actually have strong advocates on local board who aren't going to sit back and let Auckland Transport dictate what our public transport network looks like. In the previous term AT said we could have the ferry OR the bus station. I prepared local board feedback on the regional public transport plan that made it clear the community's view was that both were essential. Now that Auckland Transport is losing its power and local boards are making public transport decisions, we must ensure our elected representatives are strong advocates who can deliver a public transport that works for all who live on the Coast. Is it right that you can't get a bus from the Whangaparāoa directly to Orewa anymore?
Vote Jake Law, Nick Rado and Gemma Moffat!
