Space Makers Pop Up Exhibition
Thursday 25 June 11am
Nathan Homestead Pukepuke
Over 5 weeks, two South Auckland creatives Atelaite Taupeavai Mapa (PhD Candidate, University of Auckland | Research & Policy Manager, Safekids Aotearoa) & Marie Hemo T**i Mapa (BFA graduate, Whitecliffe) have worked with students from Te Ara Poutama - Manurewa in a programme called 'SPACE MAKERS' here at the homestead in our painting studio.
This programme is about making space for vā — relational space. Over five weeks, rangatahi from Te Ara Poutama AE – Manurewa explored who they are and what Manurewa means to them through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and visual storytelling.
We are excited to create space for these rangatahi to share their voices, authentic to their experiences. For many, this is their first time engaging with the arts in this way.
Please join us this Thursday at 11am in the foyer of Nathan Homestead Pukepuke (70 Hill Road, Manurewa) light snacks and refreshments will be available.
*If you can't make it this Thursday, their works will still on be on display in the foyer until Saturday 27 June.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with Tōtara Hospice’s Talanoa group to capture portraits of attendees and those who came along to support them during the talanoa sessions.
During Hospice Awareness Week, these portraits were presented in a pop-up exhibition highlighting the importance of culturally grounded care through photography and talanoa. Our foyer was filled with emotion that morning, as families, friends, hospice staff, ward councillors, and local board members gathered together for a beautiful and deeply moving event.
The exhibition also celebrated those who had marked important life moments at the hospice, including milestone birthdays and weddings.
These portraits will now be gifted back to the patients and their families to cherish.
Special thanks to Tōtara Hospice, Taime Pasifika Cancer Support, Davis Funerals, Manurewa Local Board for making this possible.

The Manurewa Potters Club have called Nathan Homestead Pukepuke home for over 50 years. Our Upstairs Gallery is currently filled with works from their group exhibition, Vessels, showing now!
This exhibition explores the meaning of ‘vessel’, ranging from purely functional to totally abstract, from simplicity of form though to expressive sculptural pieces. The works presented in this exhibition are all created by members of MPC. These vessels reflect MPC’s multicultural collective.
