A seed of an idea planted back in the early 2000's at the Kawakawa Community Trust has finally come to fruition with the implementation of a public transport service for the small towns within the Bay of Islands. Flexi Public Transport will begin 3 months of trial runs as from October 1st, servicing Kaikohe, Moerewa, Kawakawa, Paihia and Kerikeri with stops in between for pick-ups, if required. Sp

okesperson Karen Peihopa (formerly from the Kawakawa Community Trust- KCT) says she knows that Kawakawa and it's rural surrounds have needed some sort of public transport for years. I know there has been shuttle services that have come and gone but I believe they weren't going for the right demographics. I want to mention Rangi Lipsham who had a Taxi service in Kawakawa for years and it wasn't until after she died that Margaret Wikaire (formerly from KCT) really saw that need surface locally. Our service is aimed at the locals wanting to go too and between the towns within the Bay of Islands at an affordable rate. We also will be doing early morning work runs to Kerikeri, Paihia from Kaikohe, a run to Whangarei and a run between Auckland and the Bay of Islands when required (group bookings). Government Authorities have made a fortune in our region from un-registered, un-warranted vehicles and unlicensed drivers when Police set up their road stops on the days they know all the illeagal cars and drivers will be on the road. Ms Peihopa says her original target market was the rurals ie: Matawaia, Motatau, Waikare..... however my investor and employer Jasvinder Gill said "those roads need to be tar sealed first", after he endured a trip through Pipiwai, Kaikou, Matawaia on his first time coming up to the North. So whilst our vehicle won't be hitting those metal roads, we maybe able to go as far as the tar seal to pick up groups (4 or more) ring up and enquire. Originally I was going to approach our Runanga for financial backing in 2012 , but that didn"t happen. In 2014 I asked Mr Gill if he would be interested in backing this venture and he was and here we are. Whilst Mr Gill and I are based in Auckland we will be up here regularly to support and direct our home based team Gail Watene and driver Allan. Use it or lose it we will be re-assessing around December to bring in more vehicles or not.

Kia ora, I’ve been working with this trading name since last year. Firstly with Taxis United, then only on Sundays with bookings when I changed Taxi companies and went back to Alert. Anyway now because of Covid 19 I am reducing the number of people I pick up and will only do bookings and not random pickups.

Kia ora, thought I better get on here and say something as the page is getting a few views. Anyway I can’t find anyone to be a driver up there. I believe there’s a good business opportunity for someone local. If anyone knows anyone who could be interested but doesn’t know how or what’s needed contact me. I’d love to help someone provide a taxi service around Kawakawa, Moerewa, and the surrounding rural areas.

Kia ora, Seasons greetings and may this year be healthier, wealthier and wiser then last year 😀I want to acknowledge the people who have liked and visited this page, thank you. To me if there's people looking then there is interest and the page gets visited regularly.
Whilst I haven't posted anything in a while (cos nothing informative has happened) behind the scenes I have been coaxing someone from up there (Kawakawa/Moerewa), whom i trust to assist me with this project. And yay 🎉 I think I've got someone but i'll let you all know when its confirmed.
I still firmly believe that having a taxi/shuttle around Kawakawa/Moerewa is a beneficial service to the community and a viable employment/business option.
So if anyone has any queries, don't be shy and leave a message.

Ata Marie koutou, notifications says I havnt posted for a while .... so hopefully everyone is taking advantage of the Regional councils link bus to keep it going. I've said before that I think there is still a need for a taxi round Kawakawa, Moerewa and even into the rurals ie: Matawaia, Motatau, Opahi, Karetu, Waikato etc .... But need a driver up there who is going to be committed to the job, not some humbug who just wants to get paid. Actually 2 people would be good doing a morning and evening shift.
