OUR PEOPLE OUR COMMUNITY 🌺🌺🌺
The Board and Staff of CIDANZ extend their warmest congratulations to Cook Islands Consular General Papa Keu Mataroa and his team on the official opening of the new Cook Islands Consulate at 1/11 Freeman Way, Manukau, Auckland. Our GM joined leaders and members of the community including our CIRAC Orometua and previous Consular General Mama Rosie Blake to celebrate this morning.

This significant milestone reflects the ongoing commitment to serving and supporting all Cook Islanders. The beautiful new office provides a welcoming and fitting home for the important work of the Consulate and its staff.

CIDANZ looks forward to continuing to work closely alongside the Consulate to strengthen connections, support the wellbeing of our people, and serve the Cook Islands community together.

Nā te Atua kotou e tauturu ma te akameitaki mai i te au tuatau ki mua i te tāvinianga i to tatou iti tangata.

💜💜 This week is Elder Abuse Awareness Week. 💜💜

👉 Take a moment to check in on te aronga pakari (older people) in your life.

Some abuse are very obvious, but not all are. Some of it is subtle and gets brushed off as "for their own good." And often, it's coming from someone they know and trust.

🤔 If something doesn't feel right, for someone you love or even yourself, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Call the Elder Abuse Response Service. They're there to listen.

🌺 Hui Fono 2026 | Beyond the Hype

Our CIDANZ team had the privilege of attending Hui Fono 2026: Beyond the Hype - Applying Artificial and Ancestral Intelligences for Transformative Learning.

We were inspired by keynote speakers Peter-Lucas Jones (Te Hiku Media) and Namulau'ulu Nu'uali'i Eteroa Lafaele (Fibre Fale), who challenged us to think deeply about how we engage with AI. Not just as a tool, but as part of a wider ecosystem of knowledge. As we move through a rapidly changing digital landscape, we are reminded that:

🟢 Innovation must walk alongside identity
🟡 Technology should amplify, not replace, our people and stories
🟢 Ancestral knowledge remains a powerful foundation for future learning

At CIDANZ, we see opportunity in AI. Particularly in how it can support our communities, strengthen connection, and open new pathways. At the same time, we remain grounded in our values, ensuring we move forward with care, purpose, and cultural integrity.

💜 Elder Abuse Awareness Week / 15-22 June. 💜
When an older person is disrespected, hurt, ignored, manipulated, isolated, or taken advantage of by someone they know and trust, that's elder abuse. And it happens more than we think 👉 AND it happens in our Cook Islands community. That needs to stop.

🙌 Our elders carry our language, our culture, our history. They deserve to be protected, honoured, and heard, not hurt by the people closest to them.

This week, we're asking our community to:
✅ Check in on an elder in your life
✅ Challenge age discrimination when you see it
✅ Share info about elder abuse with others, helpline below ⬇
✅ Learn the signs of elderly abuse
✅ Respect and support the choices older people make

💜💜 'Ākono 'ia to tatou aronga pakari 💜💜

We enjoyed a visit to Māngere Town Centre Library, learned about their services, signed up for library cards, and received free health checks from MIT nursing students.

Congratulations to Tupuna for winning thismonth's "Spin the Wheel" and taking home some goodies for the whānau.sCe👏
