Millions of women around the world needlessly suffer the indignities of coercive control, a violation of human rights that is entirely preventable.

On top of living in fear and having to manage a partner’s controlling demands, many women also have to deal with victim-blaming from those around them. This 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we can all take action.

What an incredible day at the Rainbow Parade NZ! Our Family Works Northern team had a good time celebrating love, identity, and community spirit.

We march because we believe every child and every whānau in Aotearoa deserves to grow up in a world where they are fully accepted, seen, and celebrated. Supporting our diverse communities to thrive is at the heart of what we do, because when our families are strong and inclusive, we build a better life for everyone.

2025 has been a year of 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. This Christmas, we’re reflecting on the children, young people and families we’ve walked alongside and the incredible strength we’ve seen in our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to join us. It was wonderful to see so many families and community members standing together for a safe, respectful, and violence-free community. The music, the fun, and the shared commitment to this important cause made the day truly special.

On this 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and remembrance, 12 November, we acknowledge survivors of abuse in care across Aotearoa New Zealand, and to those no longer with us.

Perehipitīriana Āwhina o Te Raki, greets and acknowledges all survivors who remain standing bravely, acknowledging the unwarranted abuse and grief which was burdened upon you and your whānau perpetually. We greet you, we acknowledge you, we will support you.

On Aotearoa New Zealand Social Workers Day, we celebrate our incredible Family Works social workers - everyday heroes who walk alongside individuals, tamariki and whānau in their most vulnerable moments, helping them find strength, dignity, and hope. You don’t just make a difference. You are the difference! 🫶

A huge thanks to the team at Open Country, who donated six children’s BMX bikes (complete with helmets and locks!) to Family Works Waikato.

Built by Open Country staff as part of a team-building challenge, these bikes will go to local children supported by our team who could really use a boost.

“We wanted to give some kids a chance just to be kids,” said Hennie Peters, Chief People Officer at Open Country.
