👉 Which one is appropriate for a child just learning to read? Ask yourself the following:
👉 Which one is designed for practicing new decoding skills?
👉 Which one must rely on high frequency words, pictures, and context cues?
👉 Which one moves the alphabetic code into long term memory?
👉 Which one sends a message to children that reading is a guessing game?
The answer is obvious. 🧐
If a child goes into first grade reading, NEITHER one is a good choice‼️ That child can read ANY book he or she desires! Isn’t that the goal???

This gives a nice explanation of why it can be a challenge to assess a student with LDs as there are many factors and layers that contribute in different degrees. The learning issues for these kiddos can be very complex and this is why we do so much training. It’s more than learning to teach phonics!
Co-existing Conditions of Dyslexia When my son was first diagnosed with dyslexia, I also learned that he had dyscalculia.
