titled: BECOMING I haven’t seen these before. A roselily - sitting strikingly tall as I entered the florist shop. It definitely caught my eye. I brought it home and studied the bloom. I loved the multiple layers of fringed petal edges these beauties had. This one in particular was not fully open, not yet but almost - felt too good not to freeze in time and giving it a sense of anticipation. I decided to do this in black and white to strip away everything except for what matters - form, texture and light. Starting the year with one of my all-time favourites — water lilies. They offer only a quiet glimpse of themselves. A short-lived beauty, yet when they bloom, they bloom fully. Their beauty is extraordinary, made even more meaningful by how briefly it lasts. Because they appear for such a fleeting moment, you learn to appreciate them more when they choose to reveal themselves. I’ve always made sure to have a pond at home just so I could witness these blooms. Today, I have four — yellow, white, strawberry, and blue — although I am still patiently waiting for the blue to show me its beauty.
