We were so lucky to be part of the arrival of the first kiwi to Waiheke this time last year, we brought a group of eco-warrier students from Waiheke Primary to help transport these guys to their new home and we are so thrilled to see them thriving!!!
Amazing mahi, work - this is a beautiful repost...
Meet the kiwi chicks on Waiheke π€
The next generation of kiwis is happily growing up on the motu.
Did you know that kiwi chicks come into the world with an incredible survival trick built in?
When they hatch, nearly half their body weight is made up of a giant internal yolk sac, basically a built-in packed lunch that gives them all the food they need for their first 7β10 days of life. That means they can stay safely hidden in their burrow without needing mum or dad to bring them food.
Unlike most chicks, kiwi donβt spend their early days calling out or begging for food. Staying quiet and hidden gives them a natural survival edge as a ground-dwelling bird, helping them avoid detection while they grow stronger.
But kiwi evolved without mammalian predators. Introduced predators like stoats, feral cats, and dogs hunt by smell, meaning chicks are still massively vulnerable. In places without predator control, only around 5% of kiwi chicks survive to adulthood.

What a week at TRENZ in TΔmaki Makaurau Auckland β New Zealandβs largest international tourism business event, bringing together hundreds of international travel buyers with leading tourism operators from across New Zealand.
Last week we had the privilege of hosting a series of famil (tour) experiences for travel trade partners, media, and guest speakers from the TRENZ Talks programme, showcasing some of the very best of Waiheke Island on our tours.
Jenny and Brooke also completed three days of scheduled appointments with international travel partners, reconnecting with key global buyers and building exciting new relationships. It was a fantastic opportunity to share what we do, hear fresh market insights, and explore new possibilities for collaboration.
It was also great to connect with NZ industry partners throughout the event too.
We left feeling energised, proud, and excited about whatβs ahead for New Zealand tourism.
A big thank you to everyone we met along the way β weβre looking forward to working with all our new connections!

β¨ Tips for planning your day on Waiheke
There's so much to think about when visiting somewhere on your bucket-list and not wanting to miss a thing. Here are 7 common mistakes people make when planning a visit to Waiheke:
1. Not booking tastings in advance
Many vineyards now require reservations, especially on weekends and in summer. Turning up without a booking can mean missing out.
2. Underestimating travel time around the island
Wineries look close on a map, but winding roads, viewpoints and traffic can make the day tighter than expected.
3. Forgetting someone has to drive
If youβre tasting at multiple vineyards, having a driver limits the experience for one person.
4. Assuming taxis and rideshares are easy to get
Transport can be limited during peak times, events and cruise ship days.
5. Not booking lunch
The best vineyard restaurants often book out days in advance β particularly with the views everyone wants.
6. Trying to visit too many wineries
People often plan five or six stops and end up rushing. Three to four quality visits usually makes for a much better day.
7. Not thinking about wine purchases
Itβs easy to forget youβll need to carry bottles around - and get them home on the ferry or flight.
Not to worry - we are here to help curate your perfect day and take care of all the details, so your whole group can relax and enjoy. We can arrange it all! Get in touch: [email protected]
