Beyond excited to be bringing Kaurna lands craziest quintet back to New Zealand for their second ever Aotearoa shows 🙂‍↕️

Fusing Australian post-punk and noise rock into a metallic rainbow of snarling bass, frenetic guitar, electronic clarinet and restless percussion - The Empty Threats are untouchable party-rock at its finest.

A live performance like you’ve never seen before - the Empties show combines Bowie-esque glamour with unbridled energy, frontperson Stu Patterson is completely fearless on stage and in studio.

The Empty Threats are in the midst of rolling out their sophomore album, “happy birthday” - and are sure to play all the hits at their performances in Aotearoa. DO NOT miss this band - they are one of a kind.

Performing at Junk Fest in Auckland on Saturday 7 June, and in Wellington the night before - June 6th at Meow 💖

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT ~*⭐️

Introducing Office Dog, hailing from Ōtepoti/Dunedin and residing in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland. The trio, led by Kane Strang on guitar/vocals, alongside Rassani Tolovaa on bass and Mitchell Innes on drums, released their debut album ‘Spiel’ in 2023 to wide critical acclaim. Assembling intricate musical collages, Office Dog fearlessly explore the depths of complex emotions through layers of tension, release, and celestial lyricism. Pitchfork heralded the album as sounding “like an album about the joy of playing together.”

Office Dog formed in 2021. Amidst a busy solo career, front-person Kane Strang sought a more collaborative musical outlet. He teamed up with fellow musicians and previous collaborators Mitchell Innes and Rassani Tolovaa, and the trio began writing together across various locations in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland. It clearly paid off well, as Pitchfork heralded their debut as sounding “like an album about the joy of playing together.”

Since then, Office Dog have continued to develop their signature sound, releasing music that’s delicate yet poignant, vast but all encompassing - most notably with the 7 song EP ‘Doggerland’ released in the second half of last year.

Stoked to have on the lineup for junk 2025 💪 $45 tickets available now at undertheradar.co.nz (link in bio) See u there??? 🖤🤍

JUNK FEST 2025 ~ Artist Spotlight 🖤🙂‍↕️
TWINE

Beyond excited to be bringing back to Aotearoa one of the best bands from across the ditch, Twine. After their debut NZ shows around Camp A Low Hum ’24, they were last on our shores in February just gone courtesy of - and soon they’ll be back for more (junk fest in Auckland, and a special sideshow in Wellington to be exact!)

The two threads that twist together to make South Australian band Twine are barrelling noise rock and wounded, stinging country.  Their debut record New Old Horse is dazzling and devastating in equal measure; a tender yet eruptive exploration of wayward relationships and the aches of identity in flux. The dynamism of the album mirrors these disordered attachments and emotions  - tracks of brute force quickly descend into mournful interludes from the violin, while slow tracks sprawl out and then explode into a pummel of noise and drums. Tom Katsaras’ unpolished vocals quiver and howl, giving each song a sorrowful depth.

The band began in Adelaide in 2021, initially as a solo vehicle for Katasaras’ experiments into brash, country-inflected rock. But as the band members shifted and finally solidified into their current line-up -  Tom Katsaras (Vocals/ Guitar),  Matt Schultz (Guitar), Thea Martin (Violin), Alicia Salvanos (Bass) and Jackson Pagett (Drums) - the music became more of a collective effort, with Katsaras bringing his bandmates small fragments of songs that were then expanded and warped into new shapes. Part of the unruly power of New Old Horse (Mixed by Alex Farrar, who has worked with MJ Lenderman and Wednesday) comes from this communal approach.
